Various Activities Marking GCC Traffic Week Take Place in Al Ain and Western Region

The Al Ain Traffic and Patrols Section at the Traffic and Patrols Directorate General of Abu Dhabi Police has organized different events and activities to celebrate the 30th annual Unified GCC Traffic Week.

Colonel Hamad Nasser Al Blushi, Head of Peripheral Regions Traffic Department at the Traffic and Patrols Directorate General of Abu Dhabi Police, highlighted the importance of these events as they contribute to increasing traffic awareness. He pointed out the efforts made by the traffic police to limit accidents and reduce the resulting fatalities and material damage. He also spoke about the success of awareness campaigns organized in cooperation with the media.

Colonel Al Blushi extended his sincere thanks to the organizing authorities participating in the Unified GCC Traffic Week’s events and praised their efforts for enabling their success.

The events held in Al Ain included an awareness exhibition at Al Bawadi Mall that took place in the morning, and competitions that took place in the evening. Several schools cooperated to organize such activities, in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC), Al Ain Education Zone and Emirates Transport. Events will continue for a whole week, along with some activities and competitions for the attendees.

Major Abdullah Ali Al Shamesi, from Al Ain Traffic Section, and First Lieutenant Nasser Khalifa Al Shamesi, Acting Public Relations Branch Manager at the Al Ain Traffic Section, attended the inaugural ceremony at the main hall at the Mall yesterday morning. A number of officers, warrant officers, and members from the section, along with representatives of the participating schools were present at the celebration.

Major Al Shamesi said that the Unified GCC Traffic Week, celebrated annually at this time of the year by traffic directorates and sections across the GCC, reflects the significant attention dedicated at the police leadership level to traffic issues, given their profound influence on different segments of society.

First Lieutenant Nasser Khalifa Al Shamesi stated that the section’s personnel have organized a traffic awareness competition for the public in the evening, to allow wide participation in the events being held for this occasion. The goal of such competitions is to improve the level of traffic awareness among society members.

First Lieutenant Al Shamesi added that the Traffic and Patrols Directorate General of Abu Dhabi Police, in cooperation with Alsayegh Media, had set up several online events and activities on a number of websites from different parts of Abu Dhabi in order to communicate with the audience.

The Western Region Traffic and Patrols Section held a traffic awareness exhibition at the Madinat Zayed Shopping Centre in the Western Region. The exhibition aims to promote traffic awareness among people, introduce safe driving methods, encourage the use of seatbelts when driving, encourage drivers to avoid talking on mobile phones, and urge pedestrians to cross roads at the designated pedestrians crosswalks to avoid run-over accidents.
