The Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, represented by the Directorate General of Central Operations, has sent 12 officers and non-commissioned officers from the training section at the Emergency and Public Safety Department to undergo training in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on a new system called the Crash Recovery System (CRS). The new system aims to raise the trainees’ efficiency and enhance traditional ways of response to cases of emergency associated with hybrid cars which operate on alternative sources of energy by using state-of-the-art techniques and available electronic methods via smart devices. This is pursuant the implementation of the Smart Government initiative, and consistent with the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ’s strategy that aims to optimize the use of human resources.
"These courses embody the Abu Dhabi Police’s strategic plan, related to the strategic priority (a police organization efficiently and effectively managed),” said Major General Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Director General of Central Operations at the Abu Dhabi Police.
"The leadership spares no effort to qualify its personnel, through training courses available both inside and outside the State. The courses are usually held in coordination with highly qualified international organizations and institutes with expertise in all specialized fields. This will contribute to achieve the transition from the traditional training stage to the e-training systems, which in turn will increase the efficiency of rescuers in fieldwork and provide them with new skills in rescue operations of the injured and trapped victims in severe car accidents,” he added.
Al Raisi indicated that this specialized course will introduce smart devices to the Emergency and Public Safety Department’s rescue vehicles, particularly in severe car accidents and dealing with major injuries or situations where people are trapped in a vehicle. For this reason, the utmost care needs to be taken to preserve both the rescuer and victims’ lives.
Moreover, Major General Al Raisi praised the efforts of the trainees, wishing them further achievements and success. He also urged them to share the skills they acquired through the course with their colleagues.
For his part, Colonel Mohammed Ibrahim Al Amri, Director of the Emergency and Public Safety Department stated that these courses are in keeping with the department’s endeavor to shift from traditional training to e-training stage in dealing with car accidents. This is achieved by resorting to the latest software and methods available to train rescuers on responding to car crashes, and avoiding the occupational associated risks, such as handling the dangers associated with cars that operate on alternative sources of energy such as electricity, natural gas vehicles and solar power.
Al Amri added that modern techniques allow rescuers to locate the dangerous parts of a vehicle based on databases containing all mass-production vehicles available, how they operate, and location of the dangerous parts to be avoided by the rescuer while handling the vehicle.
For his part, Major Omar Ahmed Al Dhaheri, Head of the delegation that took part in the course and Chief of the training section of the Emergency and Public Safety Department stated: "The course included a number of topics on the emergency response to vehicles operating on alternative sources of energy. It also included extensive training on the modern techniques such as (CRS) program, which contains a large database, covering all types of vehicles that rescuers might encounter and location of hazardous components of the vehicle, thus offering optimal protection in case of an accident. These components include namely; airbags; sensors and their related cylinders; high pressure electrical wiring; automatic seatbelt pretensioners; the fuel tank; and the vehicle’s engine among other things. The availability of such data for the rescue crew facilitates the rescue process of the injured people trapped inside the vehicle, with minimum effort and high efficiency.”
Concluding, the participants in the course lauded the leadership’s dedicated attention to its employees, by enabling them to participate in advanced courses with international Institutes. This contributes efficiently to develop police work and quality of service provided to the community, by transferring expertise and international experiences to all police personnel.
