5 ADP Women Officers Trained on Rescuing Trapped Individuals
Trained on Stabilizing Vehicles and Handling Accidents

Five ADP Women Officers completed a first time training course on rescuing individuals trapped in vehicles, using the latest means and equipment to handle such accidents.

As part of the course, the five police women were trained on rescuing skills, to free individuals trapped in vehicles particularly in severe car accidents. They were also trained to use an advanced program to locate airbags and identify the detailed technical electric specifications in the vehicle using an iPad. This new system facilitates the rescue team members’ mission and helps them avoid the associated risks.

Major General Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Director General of Central Operations indicated that the police institution is keen to advance the female staff and qualify them in several areas.  "For this end, five police women officers took part for the very first time in a specialized rescue course; where they underwent training on the latest hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, and manual equipment; as well as the means to stabilize vehicles that involve advanced technical, tactical and detailed specifications,” he noted.

He added that the female staff members were trained on the best means to handle car accidents, rescue trapped individuals and provide them with necessary first aid. They were also acquainted with the technical specifications of modern vehicles, detailed body structures as well as on vehicles that operate on natural gas, and air bag systems in vehicles to avoid potential risks. "The program and training curriculum are in keeping with the ongoing development of technology applied at the international level in the field of rescue.  It makes the UAE stand out from the crowd in the region, in this area.

He affirmed that Emirati female nationals enjoy significant potential of productivity in all fields of work and as per the latest international applied practices. He added that they have achieved significant presence in the various fields of work, and went past the routine of administrative work to the thrilling hands-on field work.

For his part, Lt. Colonel Muhammed Ibrahim Al Amri, Head of Emergency and Public Safety Department in Abu Dhabi Police said: "the police women interacted positively with the topics of this training. They performed practical exercises with high skill which enabled us to determine their level of ability, in using rescue tools and responding to such accidents. This would promote the services of Abu Dhabi Police in search and rescue missions.”

Al Amri added that the department provides the requirements, training tools and means of first aid and rescue at all stages of training, under the supervision of qualified Abu Dhabi Police trainers in the field of rescue. . He continued that training includes first aid courses to enable rescuers to provide the best help to people. He stressed the importance of teamwork; as rescue missions are a collective effort that no person can perform alone without help.

He indicated that rescuing injured in severe traffic accidents is an essential part of rescue teams’ work. It requires coordination, knowledge and the ability to think and act calmly and efficiently using the appropriate skills, in order to save the injured and bring them to safety as soon as possible.

He continued: "there are several steps to be followed in rescue operations; they include identifying easy to difficult tasks.  Some rescue operations associated with traffic accidents are easy; they just include opening the vehicle’s doors and evacuating the injured.  Other operations require further efforts, and may require in the use of hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical equipment to achieve the rescue operation to the fullest and in the shortest period of time.

He stressed that the Emergency and Public Safety Department in Abu Dhabi Police is keen to optimize rescue operations, in order to reduce the time required to complete rescue, improve the condition of the injured and prevent additional injuries.
