In order to enhance prevention and public safety

During the council hosted by Saeed Mohammed Khalaf Al Rumaithi in his residence in Al Ain under the title “Services of the civil defense, emergency and safety sectors”, participants stressed the need to provide homes and buildings with alarms and fire extinguishers, as well as to ensure the optimal use of energy resources by alleviating pressure on electricity and avoiding friction of electrical wiring.
Participants agreed on the importance of raising the awareness of the public regarding the services of the Civil Defense sector. They also called for enhancing awareness regarding the proper ways to handle and prevent fires, and to promote prevention and safety of citizens and residents of the UAE.
The council is part of the series of awareness councils organized by the Law Respect Culture Bureau, in cooperation with the Security Media Department at the General Directorate of Security Support at the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. The council was moderated by the media personality Abdul Rahman Al Shamiri, Director General and Editor-in-Chief of Al Watan Newspaper.
In his speech, Colonel Tariq Saleh Al Sharif, Deputy Director General of Civil Defense in Abu Dhabi, confirmed that the objectives of Civil Defense focus on preserving human and material resources in the country and on providing protection to public and private property. These objectives fall in line with the Ministry of Interior's strategy aimed at making the UAE one of the best countries in the world in terms of security and safety.
Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Saeed Al Neyadi, Head of the Al Ain Civil Defense Department, attributed most of the causes of fires to negligence and insufficient awareness of public safety standards. “Many people do not realize the dangers of leaking gas and flammable chemicals, or of overloading electrical outlets and not carrying out regular maintenance for air conditioners, heaters, and water heaters,” he said.
Major Ahmed Al Affari, Head of Civil Defense Operations Section in Al Ain, pointed out that most of the fires occur due to negligence and leakage of gases, flammable chemicals, candles, cigarettes, and heating equipment, in addition to electrical friction and lack of awareness of public safety requirements. He also stressed the importance of adhering to the standards and requirements of public safety in commercial and investment buildings as announced by the Civil Defense sector at the Ministry of Interior.
Major Nasser Al Afari, Public Safety Branch Manager at the Civil Defense Department highlighted the Civil Defense efforts in enhancing the awareness culture among various segments of society by organizing several educational, awareness and guidance lecturers, as well as outreach campaigns regarding the preventative measures related to firefighting, and fire and risk avoidance.
Saeed Mohammed Khalaf Al Rumaithi, praised the Ministry of Interior’s efforts in enhancing awareness culture in various police and security sectors, in order to ensure the safety and security of the society. Concluding, he highlighted the importance of MoI Councils in promoting community awareness among various segments of society.
