Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - Sunday, October 11th 2015 [ME NewsWire]
An Arab national was killed and 7 Asians sustained minor injuries in a traffic accident, which took place on Sunday morning, due to the low visibility during fog. According to Colonel Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Deputy Head of the Capital’s Traffic Department, Traffic and Patrols Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police, the accident, which took place on Abu Dhabi-Sila road, involved a bus transporting workers and a truck trailer.
Investigations are still underway to determine the circumstances of the accident.
Colonel Al Zeyoudi called upon motorists, especially those using the external highways (Abu Dhabi-Dubai; Abu Dhabi-Al Ain; Abu Dhabi-Ghuwaifat), and truck drivers on trucks’ roads; to adhere to the instructions of the Abu Dhabi Police and not to drive trucks or heavy vehicles until the fog clears.
He stressed the need to reduce speed and be cautious on the road especially during foggy conditions, which causes low visibility. He also urged them to follow the weather forecasts, and the safety instructions issued by the concerned authorities.
Colonel Al Zeyoudi advised motorists to double the safe distance between vehicles to avoid collisions; especially with the foggy conditions that are set to continue in the coming period. He also urged the motorist to make the right decision and avoid overtaking other vehicles or changing lanes in cases of low visibility.
