Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, met on Tuesday in his office at the Abu Dhabi Police General headquarters, with a delegation from the US Police, headed by Major General Horace Frank, Deputy Commander of Special Operations and Anti-terrorism bureau at Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).
His Highness welcomed the delegation on a visit to the UAE, underscoring the importance of international cooperation, joint field work and expertise exchange among the US and the UAE Police, so as to enhance efforts for the service of society and the fight against crime.
Major General Horace Frank expressed his happiness and the accompanying delegation’s delight, at meeting His Highness; praising the achievements of the police in the UAE, which is one of the world's most secure and safe countries.
The meeting was attended by Major General Dr. Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior; Brigadier Sheikh Mohammed bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Director General of Security and Ports Affairs at Abu Dhabi Police; Colonel Khalid Saeed Al Shamesi, Director of Security Support Department; Major Mohammed Mubarak Musabi, Chief of the Security Support Patrols Section; Captain Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamad Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, Investigations Branch Manager at Al Mussafah Police, and a number of senior officers.
For his part, Colonel Khalid Al Shamesi explained that the official visit by the US Police delegation to the UAE is designed to examine the tasks and duties undertaken by the Security Support Department and the advanced training programs. It is also aimed at exchanging expertise in the field operations and patrols, and getting acquainted with the various police departments at the Ministry of Interior.
The US Police delegation, headed by Major General Horace Frank, visited this morning the Civil Defense Academy in Abu Dhabi, and was briefed on its achievements and tasks through a comprehensive presentation given by Colonel Sultan Al Suwaidi, Director of the Academy.
The delegation reviewed the training skills of the Directorate General of Security Support staff members of the, and toured a number of police departments, as a part of the expertise exchange program with international police bodies. The delegation attended part of the extensive training exercises carried out by the Security Support staff members, in swimming, and shooting; and reviewed the equipment and the special devices used in the Security Support field patrols, according to the latest international standards. The delegation members watched a documentary film about the Directorate General of Security Support, and were briefed about the operations and patrols sections, and the major tasks carried out by the Security Support staff members. They also took part in the mock drills and operations carried out by the Security Support patrols, and daily tasks they perform on the streets of Abu Dhabi.
The guest delegation also visited the Criminal Investigation department (CID) at the Directorate General of Police Operations of Abu Dhabi Police, and was briefed on its achievements, initiatives and efforts for continuous development, which include implementing the best practices and standards in the field of police work. The delegation was greeted upon arrival by Brigadier Dr. Rashid Mohammad Borshid, Head of the CID Department.
The delegation also visited the Operations Department, at the Directorate General of Central Operations at the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ. Colonel Nasser Al Maskari, Head of the Operations Department, briefed the delegation about the tasks and duties undertaken by the Operations Room. The delegation then watched a presentation about the Operations Room, and the development achieved with the use of the latest technological devices and advanced software and systems. The delegation members were also acquainted with the role the Operations Room, as well as its daily tasks, and the role of the mobile Operations Room.
Efficiency and Quality
Major General Horace Frank and the accompanying delegation took part in the Security Support patrols missions, and expressed their admiration for the outstanding efficiency, work quality, and professionalism demonstrated by the Security Support men and women, in discharging the daily tasks assigned to them. He emphasized the world-class performance of the Security Support staff members is based on advanced academic foundations, in accordance with the highest international standards, coupled with the extensive training, provided by a team of highly qualified experts, which contribute to hone the skills and competencies of the Security Support staff members. “Such performance and outcomes are a true testament to the significant development achieved by the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters (GHQ) across its various facilities and departments, and the developmental levels it attained, which contribute significantly to enhancing the overall state of security and stability witnessed by the United Arab Emirates,” he said.
It is worth mentioning that a delegation from the Security Support Department at Abu Dhabi Police recently took part in the sorties carried out by the LAPD Air Wing Department during his visit to Los Angeles, USA. They also participated in the raids to arrest wanted criminals, and responded to emergency notifications that requested the intervention of air support helicopters, as well as realistic operations and daily tasks of the LAPD in the streets of Los Angeles.
The Security Support delegation’s multiple visits to the Los Angeles Police Department contributed to acquaint the delegation members with modern police tactics and innovative ideas in the framework of the approach to follow-up on the latest developments in police and security work. The Security Support staff members tackled criminals in the heart of Los Angeles County, and contributed to the arrest of suspected outlaws in response to criminal reports, during their hands-on participation in the LAPD field patrols.
