The third edition of the Ministry of Interior’s Smartphone Applications Award 2015-2016 for university students is set to commence on Monday. The launch event will take place during a forum held at Fairmont Hotel in Abu Dhabi, in the presence of a number of police leaders, and large crowd of students representing more than 50 universities accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research at the countrywide level.
Major General Dr. Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior stressed the commitment of the Ministry to help young Emirati cadres release their creative potentials, keep abreast of modern developments and encourage them to demonstrate innovation and excellence. “The official Award launching ceremony will feature presentations by Microsoft and Samsung; showcasing their latest smart technology. It will provide university students an overview of the criteria and technical support in this regard,” he said.
Additionally, he emphasized that the forum aims at encouraging students to submit new ideas and innovations for projects that focus on the Ministry of Interior’s services in various sectors, which will ultimately be converted into solutions for smart applications, paving the way for students to participate in the government summit scheduled to take place in February 2016.
Major General Al Nuaimi also noted that the Ministry of Interior is the only federal entity nationwide to support the innovative ideas of students and motivate them to participate in such contests, by disbursing valuable rewards and prizes. “The Ministry also seeks to provide technical support for students by adopting the projects, programs and devices which are used to implement the smart applications,” he indicated. Furthermore, Major General Al Nuaimi praised the distinguished participation of Microsoft and Samsung the third edition of the Award. “The two leading companies will offer various initiatives to students, to be announced during the event,” he concluded.
It is worth mentioning that the award reflects the keenness of the Ministry to open new horizons for creativity and to provide an environment that encourages innovation, thus improving the services in our beloved homeland and making the UAE one of the best countries in terms of research and development.
