MoI Child Protection Centre Urges Parents to Protect Children from Fireworks

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Thursday, July 16th 2015 [ME NewsWire]

The Ministry of Interior’s Child Protection Centre has called on parents to observe the requirements for safety in their homes and playgrounds; and to protect children against the risks of fireworks in order to prevent any incidents that could mar these celebratory days. The Centre also urged parents to abide by the requirements of prevention and safety at the various touristic sites including parks, amusement parks, beaches, markets, malls and other locations that are expected to witness a high density of visitors during the holidays.

In a bid to enhance the public's trust and increase their satisfaction, Major General Dr. Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Higher Committee for Child Protection at the Ministry of Interior, said that the Ministry is doing everything in its power to provide distinguished services according to the highest international standards. “The Ministry unwaveringly promotes the protection and security of children by enhancing the community’s awareness about the requirements of security and safety, and supports efforts aimed at protecting children against potential challenges and risks. These efforts are complemented by boosting the level of awareness of families from all societal segments in regards to the important role of the family, as it the nucleus of society,” he said.

Within the framework of the “Your Safety” campaign implemented by the Security Media Department at the General Secretariat of the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior; Major Dr. Mohammed Khalifa Al Ali, Director of the Ministry of Interior’s Child Protection Centre, called upon parents to take the necessary precautionary measures to protect children from getting lost. He urged for parents to protect their children from exposure to traffic accidents or from other dangers that arise when children play in the streets unattended.  "Children are our responsibility and we are bound to protect them by keeping them out of harm’s way,” he said; emphasizing that all police and security bodies are intensifying their efforts to enhance security and safety in various public locations.

He explained the general legal principles that parents are bound to in terms of caring for their children. He also called upon parents to redouble their efforts in protecting children from the dangers of which children are naïve. “Parents have a legal obligation to their children, and they will be held liable in the event that a child is found to have suffered from neglect or was left unattended,” he said.

Noting that the police are always ready to receive calls from the public and to provide assistance to them, he urged parents to communicate with police stations when necessary by calling the emergency call center on 999. He then wished everyone a happy holiday with days filled with joy and happiness.
