Traffic Awareness Campaign Continues in Al Ain
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - Friday, May 22nd 2015 [ME NewsWire]
The Traffic and Patrols Directorate at the Directorate General of Central Operations at the Abu Dhabi Police intensified its outreach campaigns and monitoring of roads in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western region. The directorate urged motorists to examine the tires fitted on their vehicles in order to avoid tire bursts that can result in serious injuries and fatal accidents, especially with high temperatures during the summer that could cause tires’ wear and tear.
Major Salah Abdulalh Al Hemairi, Chief of the Al Ain Traffic Section, stressed that the awareness campaign aims at educating motorists on the need to check their vehicles’ tires regularly; and warn them against the risks of using the tires for extended periods of time, at long distances during summer, which may lead to tire wear and tear due to the high temperature of roads.
Moreover, Al Hemairi warned motorists against using substandard, faulty or worn-out tires to avoid being fined “The campaigns carried out by the section to stop offenders who drive their vehicles with old and worn-out tires aims to preserve their lives and the safety of other road users,” pointed out Major Al Hemairi.
Adding further, the Chief of the Al Ain Traffic Section noted that the field efforts and intensive monitoring of the various roads in Al Ain have resulted in the confiscation of approximately 5,176 vehicles with worn out tires during the first quarter of this year. “Motorists found to be driving vehicles with tires in poor condition were punishable by a fine of AED 200 and their vehicle was confiscated for seven days,” he continued.
Major Al Hemairi emphasized that the outreach programs will continue in order to raise awareness among drivers about the importance of using top quality and reliable tires. The programs include outreach campaigns carried out by the Education Patrols, to promote awareness among motorists, as well as inspection visits to tire dealers and shops, and distribution of awareness brochures to guide them and educate them.
In conclusion, Major Al Hemairi encouraged drivers to follow the correct instructions to ensure the safety of their vehicles’ tires by checking the validity of the tire frame, the measured temperature tolerance, and the appropriate cargo-load of the tires; in order to ensure their own safety and the safety of others.
