The Abu Dhabi Police concluded on Thursday evening the Sports Activities Program for the security zone of Abu Dhabi. The activities included a race walking tournament for members over the age of 40, tug of war, road racing, as well as a smoking cessation event, all of which were held on the Corniche.
The activities were organized by the Directorate General of Strategy and Performance Development and represented by the Sports Activity Section, with participation from various departments at the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters.
Colonel Mohammed Hamid bin Dalmouj Al Dhaheri, General Director of Strategy and Performance Development, the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, reiterated the unrelenting commitment of the Abu Dhabi Police to encourage sporting activities for staff members. He also praised the support provided by the leadership to athletes, in an effort to achieve great sporting results, pursuant to the MoI’s vision, which aims at enhancing staff members’ abilities and skills in all areas of sports, and creating an environment based on cohesion, participation and interaction through such tournaments and competitions.
The Western Region (Al Gharbia) Police Directorate won the first place in race walking tournament for members over the age of 40, while the Police Schools Department came in second and IT Department came in third place. In the road race tournament, the Western Region (Al Gharbia) Police Directorate ranked first, followed by the Operations Department in second place, while the Police Schools Department placed third. The Police Schools Department was crowned champion of the Tug of War Championship.
The Smoking Cessation event was organized in cooperation with the Medical Services Department at the Finance and Services General Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police, with the participation of more than 520 police personnel and members of society.
Captain Jamal Al Saadi, Chief of the Sports Activity Section, said that sports and exercising contribute to help individuals quit smoking completely. He pointed that as a part of its participation in this valuable event, the Medical Services Department distributed awareness brochures, and various medical services to encourage staff members to quit smoking, which is an extremely harmful habit that affects not only smokers, but also those people around them.
