Abu Dhabi hosted the meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) workforce assigned to link the GCC interior ministries via a secured communication network. The meeting, held on Tuesday morning at the InterContinental Hotel Abu Dhabi, was headed by Brigadier Khalifa Salem Al Kuwari, Head of the Qatari delegation.
This meeting falls within the framework of the mutual cooperation and coordination among the GCC states to discuss and review the systems and programs to be implemented in the project of linking the GCC states through a secured optical fiber cable.
Colonel Barakat Al Kendi, Chief of the Systems Development Section, ICT Department at the Abu Dhabi Police and Head of the UAE delegation; delivered a speech at the beginning of the meeting and welcomed the delegations, wishing them to enjoy their stay in the UAE – their second home. He also extended his greetings to the police leadership in the UAE Ministry of Interior, wishing for a successful meeting; one that reaches the best decisions that foster cooperation among the GCC states.
“This vital project serves the GCC interior ministries and further enhances the efficiency of communication,” he said. “The steps that are currently underway will help the utilization of this project.” Colonel Al Kendi continued by expressing his wishes that the meeting reaches the aspired recommendations that fulfill the common objective of fostering police and security work among the GCC states.
Brigadier Khalifa Salem Al Kuwari, Head of the Qatari delegation and Head of the meeting, welcomed the members and heads of the participating delegations in his speech. He thanked the UAE for hosting the meeting and for extending such a warm welcome and hospitality. He expressed his hope in achieving the objectives of the meeting and praised the efforts of the GCC Secretariat General in preparing for the meeting.
For their part, the heads of the GCC delegations expressed their thanks and gratitude for the UAE for the good organization and warm hospitality. They also praised the efforts of the GCC Secretariat General in preparing for the meeting. The GCC delegation heads also asserted that the importance of this meeting stems from the fact that it aims to uplift joint police and security work. They also wished that the meeting achieves the aspired objectives of the GCC and of their citizens.
The first session of the meeting reviewed a number of topics including the review of the systems and programs that are to be implemented in the project of linking the GCC states via a secured optical fiber cable. The link will provide the GCC states with the ability to securely exchange top-secret information and to provide services.
The delegations also reviewed systems that are currently in progress, such as the traffic systems, the forensic investigation systems, and the civil defense systems. A consultancy firm delivered a presentation regarding the project and pointed out which entities can utilize the network and provided suggestions for each entity accordingly.
During the second session of the meeting, the delegations discussed other related topics in addition to the presentation delivered by the consultancy firm.
The workforce assigned to link the GCC interior ministries via a secured communication network will meet again tomorrow for the second consecutive day of meetings.
