Dubai, United Arab Emirates. - Wednesday, May 6th 2015 [ME NewsWire]
The winners of the UAE Young Lions Competition were announced today at an event hosted by Dubai Media City (DMC). The winning team, Gabriel Noguiera de Gama and Guilherme Aguir Grossi from TBWA/RAAD, will represent the UAE at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in June 2015, with the chance to win the highly coveted Young Lions Award.
The UAE Young Lions Competition, held in partnership with DMC, is part of the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, the world’s largest awards ceremony celebrating creativity, which brings together 12,000 people from 94 countries for a week-long programme of talks, workshops and academies to ignite creativity and innovation. Motivate along with Motivate Val Morgan have been the official representatives of the Cannes Young Lions Festival for over 17 years, in association with DMC.
The competition saw 16 teams take part, who were given 24 hours to create a campaign for Beat Diabetes, an initiative by the Landmark Group. This year, the competition took the format of a cyber-competition, and entrants were invited to submit their campaigns via social media platforms (Facebook, YouTube and Instagram).
Speaking after the event, Mohammad Abdullah, Managing Director of TECOM’s Media Cluster, said;
“Dubai Media City has been the main partner for the UAE Young Lions Competition for more than five years, and we are delighted that today’s winning team will have the opportunity to showcase their creativity in Cannes next month. The Young Lions Award is a very prestigious prize, and the Cannes International Festival of Creativity is an excellent platform to connect some of the world’s most creative talent. The UAE has a track record of success at the festival, and I am confident that this year’s winners will continue this tradition.”
Ian Fairservice, Managing Partner, Motivate Group, said;
‘Having hosted this competition for years, we are pleased to be able to give so many young creatives the opportunity to compete for a place in the team that will represent the UAE in Cannes. We replicate the exact environment in which the competition is held in Cannes so that our winners have the best possible chance of success when competing there against teams from around the world'.
The silver prize was awarded to Sarah Mamlouk and Anika Marya from Saatchi & Saatchi, and bronze to Nadia Alken and Adam Fierman from J. Walter Thompson.
