He said: “The Abu Dhabi Police is keen to implement world-class Environmental and Health and Safety standards across all police departments.”
Adding further, he indicated that celebrating the Regional Environment Day embodies the keen interest of all concerned to reinforce efforts, in a bid to preserve the region’s environment, and to establish a general and clear strategy in this regard, in light of the geographical and strategic importance of the Gulf region. Furthermore, he noted that this day has particular importance for the countries of the region that have pledged to protect the environment since signing the agreement in 1978.
Colonel Al Shamesi underlined the importance of promoting environmental education among future generations, especially among school students. He also called for planting trees and flowers in house and school gardens, and for preserving the different plants steadily grown in public areas and gardens, and complying with environment, safety and health requirements.
To mark this significant day, 50 different types of seedlings were planted in the Police Officers’ Club’ garden overlooking the sea, with the participation of the Clubs Department’s staff members, Red Crescent volunteers, as well Al Ikhlas Private School’s students and the Abilities Development Centre for people with Special Needs (ADC).
It is worth mentioning that the Regional Environment Day was launched in 1978 between the Persian Gulf countries. It is celebrated on April 24 of each year, with the aim of promoting cooperation and solidarity between the countries of the region in order to protect the environment.
