NYPD Delegation Reviews Abu Dhabi CID Achievements

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Wednesday, April 15th 2015 [ME NewsWire]

A delegation from the New York Police Department (NYPD) reviewed the achievements and initiatives of the Abu Dhabi Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Wednesday. The visit, which enhances the efforts of the CID to continuously improve and to apply the best practices and standards in the field of police work, falls within the framework of exchanging visits, information, and experiences. The delegation of the NYPD was introduced to the advanced practices adopted by the CID alongside the methods used to implement modern technologies within the policing systems.

The delegation was welcomed by Colonel Dr. Rashid Mohammad Borshid, Head of the Criminal Investigation Department at the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ; and Colonel Khaled Saeed Al Shamesi, Head of the Security Support Department. The American delegation included William J. Bratton, the New York City Police commissioner, and John Miller, the deputy commissioner of Intelligence with the New York Police Department (NYPD), and the accompanying delegates.

Both sides discussed ways to strengthen and enhance cooperation in the fields of police work in addition to a number of other topics of common interest.  Both parties agreed to the mutually-beneficial idea to exchange representatives between the NYPD and ADP in order to continue to promote effective communication efforts and benchmark standards.

Colonel Dr. Borshid provided a detailed explanation to the American delegation regarding the achievements of the CID, the most prominent features of the strategy, and the services provided to the public in order to reflect and support the multi-faceted progression of the UAE.

During the visit, the delegation watched two films. The first film was a documentary regarding the services provided by the CID alongside the advanced efforts that have been implemented in the fields of technology, science, and human resources. The second film highlighted the proactive efforts of the CID and of other police teams in handling the Reem Island Ghost crime.

The visit additionally included a tour of the sections and facilities of the CID premise. They were also introduced to the methods and speed of response in the handling of reports; and were briefed on the tasks of the CID and the standards of developing the competencies of its staff in order to keep abreast of the developments and applications in the fields of policing and security.

The delegation also reviewed the equipment at the forensics e-laboratory in addition to the electronic shooting range, simulators, and security training scenarios.

Colonel Dr. Borshid stressed on the commitment of the Abu Dhabi Police CID to promote joint international cooperation and partnership by contributing to the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and best practices. The strategy reflects the vision of the Ministry of Interior alongside the dedication to provide services to the public while simultaneously supporting security and social stability.

For his part, William J. Bratton, the New York City Police commissioner, praised the Abu Dhabi Police for their level of advancement and expressed his admiration for the police and security equipment used at the CID. He added that he had traveled in the world and had seen many police forces, but he had never seen anything that compares to the Abu Dhabi Police in terms of reaching such an advanced level. He noted that the ADP was not only one of the best police departments in the region of the Arabian Gulf, but also worldwide.

Upon conclusion of the visit, both sides exchanges commemorative shields.
