Al Ain Traffic Institute, in coordination with the Public Relations Department at the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police, organized three traffic awareness-raising lectures in Al Ain city. The lectures were held at the Al Ain Municipality, the Police Colleges in Abu Dhabi Police, and the Al Ain University of Science and Technology, to acquaint attendees with the traffic safety and safe driving concepts.
The lectures were delivered by Captain Salem Ali Al Ketbi, Head of Training at the Institute. Captain Al Ketbi noted that the lectures aim to disseminate and promote traffic safety culture in the community. “The Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate is keen to implement the traffic safety strategy through social communication, by which it provides guidance to drivers and road users, in a bid to enhance community members’ role, promote traffic awareness and reduce traffic accidents,” he said.
At Al Ain Municipality, staff members were acquainted with the traffic safety concept and the important safe driving practices, including seatbelts; refraining from using mobile phones while driving; focusing only on the road, and paying attention to inclement weather. In his lecture at the Police colleges, Captain Al Ketbi noted that excessive speed is a key risk factor in serious and fatal traffic accidents. Captain Al Ketbi also stressed the importance of abiding by legal speed limits and expecting road surprises. He said: “Some drivers disregard the risks associated with excessive speeding on the road, which in most cases, lead to fatalities and loss of property.”
Adding further, Captain Al Ketbi said: “Reckless driving is a dangerous practice committed by some motorists, which endangers their life and the lives of other road users.” He also urged drivers to abide by traffic rules, promote traffic awareness and adhere to traffic regulations.
In his lecture delivered at Al Ain University of Science and Technology and attended by a number of faculty members and students, Captain Al Ketbi focused on raising awareness on the proper ways to promote traffic safety. Attendees praised the awareness-raising and educational programs provided by the Abu Dhabi Police, to enhance the confidence and trust of community members. Attendees interacted actively with the lecturer who answered their questions and queries about traffic safety.
