The women’s ward in the Al Wathba section, at the Punitive and Correctional Establishments Department at Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters (GHQ), organized an awareness week under the slogan “Honoring Parents”. The event was held in collaboration with the Community Police Department, the Family Development Foundation, and the General Authority for Islamic Affairs and Endowments.
As a part of the week’s programs, which took place at the department’s headquarters in Al Whathba, the General Authority for Islamic Affairs and Endowments held a number of religious awareness lectures under the slogan “The Mother”. During the event, attendees watched a video documentary showcasing the remarkable achievements of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Mother of the Nation, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, and Chairwoman of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and her active role in supporting women’s rights and human development generally. Moreover, women preachers from the Community Police Department held religious lectures about honoring parents and their importance in human life.
Captain Shamsa Musabbah, Women’s Ward Branch Manager at Al Wathba Section, at the Punitive and Correctional Establishments Department of Abu Dhabi Police, gave a speech during the ceremony held to honor the participating inmates. She said that such activities are part of the annual events, with the aim of strengthening interaction and family bonding between parents and children. “This would contribute to raising awareness among inmates, as well as to developing behavioral reinforcement, because parents are the first and most important preacher individuals will ever meet,” she noted.
Adding further, Women’s Ward Branch Manager at Al Wathba Section, indicated that “Honoring the Parents” program highlights the importance of instilling the educational concepts and social values of parents’ obedience, and appreciation of their role in life. “The program also underscores the need for constant communication between inmates and their parents, which provides to psychological and social support; boosts their self-confidence; and facilitates their integration into their families and communities after release,” noted Captain Shamsa.
For her part, Lieutenant Aisha Al Haffiti, rehabilitation officer at the Women’s ward, indicated that the activities organized on the occasion of the “Honoring Parents’ Week” witnessed strong participation and interaction from the inmates. “These activities included religious awareness lectures designed to promote their religious education, and acquaint them with the importance of honoring and respecting parents and caring for them as they grow older,” she concluded.
