SHENZHEN, China - Thursday, March 12th 2015 [ME NewsWire]
(BUSINESS WIRE) -- ZTE Corporation noted that one patent of Vringo Inc. and its subsidiaries was invalidated by the Patent Re-examination Board of the State Intellectual Property Office of the People’s Republic of China because of lack of invention.
The patent, numbered 02806506.9, which is related to wireless communication, was wholly invalidated by the Patent Re-examination Board. So far, six Vringo patents have been invalidated by the board.
The decisions in China followed Vringo’s efforts to license to ZTE a broad patent portfolio, including patents that were invalidated by the Patent Re-examination Board. The United States Patent and Trademark Office has also been requested by ZTE Corporation to re-examine five patents of Vringo Inc. and its subsidiaries last month.
ZTE owns a substantial portfolio of patents including SEPs and supports FRAND licensing as a licensor and licensee. ZTE will continue to defend itself from actions brought by Vringo in Europe, Asia and South America. ZTE respects the legitimate intellectual property rights of patent holders, and is still willing to take licenses to SEPs on FRAND terms.
