Under the Slogan “Your Choice Determines Your Destiny”
ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Saturday, March 7th 2015 [ME NewsWire]
Under the patronage of Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, the UAE celebrates the 31st GCC Traffic Week, which will commence tomorrow Sunday, across the UAE, and GCC countries. The events will be held under the slogan “Your Choice Determines Your Destiny.”
To mark this occasion, a number of celebrations will be held, and attended by a number of Sheikhs and high ranking officials and officers in the UAE, as well as officer delegations from GCC countries and the participating authorities from the UAE.
Brigadier Ghaith Hassan Al Zaabi, Director General, Traffic Coordination Directorate General, Ministry of Interior, reiterated the importance of coordination amongst community members in a bid to curb traffic accidents. “Traffic safety is a collective effort and responsibility. Reducing the implications and impacts of road accidents requires commitment not only from security authorities and traffic departments, but also from individuals, private sector institutions and transport authorities,” he noted.
Brigadier Al Zaabi explained that the main goal of the annual GCC Traffic Week celebration is to raise community members’ awareness about the dangers of traffic accidents, and to encourage the public and institutions to cooperate with traffic police to curb accidents. “All society segments must work together to limit the alarming number of accidents that have become a great concern for the UAE society, and is the number one cause of deaths in the country,” he added.,
Brigadier Al Zaabi added that achieving traffic awareness is a responsibility that needs to be assumed by all institutions and sectors across the country; as such, schools, parents, businessmen, companies, laborers, drivers and all other bodies should be engaged in promoting traffic safety. Additionally, he noted that the traffic week will include various events that serve the goals of its slogan, notably lectures, forums and competitions for the benefit of all segments of society. The traffic and patrols departments will carry out awareness campaigns all over the country, and will also distribute posters and leaflets that promote the slogan.
Brigadier Al Zaabi indicated that the Traffic Coordination Directorate General printed 3,000 posters bearing the slogan of the traffic week and 20,000 children’s coloring books, which were distributed to the traffic and patrols’ departments at the various police general headquarters across the UAE.
He said that the traffic week’s events will be varied and innovative, to allow participants to avail of the different programs, such as the open stage styled contests for children and adults, and the awareness publications intended to boost traffic culture. Moreover, Brigadier Al Zaabi explained that the traffic and patrols’ departments across the UAE have been instructed to intensify awareness through multiple and diverse activities, which will include a visit program for GCC Countries’ traffic departments to the traffic and patrols’ departments in the UAE.
Adding further, Brigadier Al Zaabi mentioned that traffic accidents and their resulting injuries and fatalities, as well as the traffic violations, are the natural results of the increasing movement of vehicles on the country’s roads, as well as the increase in the numbers of vehicles and licensed drivers and the increasing length of the roads network in the UAE, because these accidents are closely linked to population growth. He noted that the traffic and patrols’ departments across the country bare the major burden of training and testing thousands of people who wish to obtain their driving licenses, as this is one of the most important requirements of economic and social development, as well as the fundamental component of the cultural renaissance experienced by the UAE in various sectors.
The Director General of the Traffic Coordination Directorate General met in his office with officers and non-commissioned officers from the traffic and licensing departments in the UAE, who will be participating in the traffic week events in the GCC countries. The meeting was attended by Colonel Nasser Ahmad Al Hosani, Chief of Federal Traffic Section; Lt. Colonel Ali Saeed Al Shehhi, Chief of the Strategy and Performance Development Section; and a number of officers from the Traffic Coordination Directorate General.
Brigadier Al Zaabi urged the delegated officers and non-commissioned officers, to contribute positively to the Traffic Week celebrations in the GCC countries, and to represent the UAE in an honorable manner. He also called upon them to be worthy of the trust bestowed upon them by the UAE and to reflect a bright image of the tasks and duties undertaken by police officers; particularly the UAE police officers, wishing them the success in the task assigned to them.
