Serafina Dubai is hosting New York-based Tarek Yamani for a special performance this month.
Yamani is noted for creating a new style of music known as Afro-Tara, which combines his Arabic-African-Jazz roots into a unique fusion that has endeared him to his audiences.
Since the release of his debut "Ashur" in 2012, Yamani has been dedicated to exploring relationships between African-American Jazz and Arabic rhythms/maqams by finding new ways of applying jazz harmonic and composition techniques to Arabic rhythms (dabke, sama’i, etc…) while also trying the opposite which is applying modal Arabic maqams using jazz vocabulary and phrasing.
This new direction in reinterpreting Arabic classical music is the main story behind his new album "Lisãn Al Tarab: Jazz Conceptions in Classical Arabic". The album has been a massive hit in New York and the Middle East.
Yamani will be performing at Serafina Dubai on Wednesday 11th March and will be jamming with Elie & Rony Afif (Afif brothers), who have been a favourite among guests at the popular dining destination.
