Abu Dhabi Licensing Department Spreads Culture of Conserving Water and Electricity

To Promote Environmental Sustainability

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Monday, March 2nd 2015 [ME NewsWire]

The Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department at Abu Dhabi Police urged its employees and customers to rationalize their consumption of water and electricity in order to protect these resources and foster environmental sustainability in the UAE by adopting suitable usage methods.

The Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department, in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Distribution Company (ADDC), has distributed information regarding ways to conserve water and electricity within the framework of an initiative for environmental sustainability. The initiative included a package of directives, guidance, and correct methods of usage. The initiative stresses on the importance of unifying efforts to conserve natural resources, and strengthening the role of social responsibility.

Brigadier Mohamed Mayouf Al Ketbi, Head of Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department at Abu Dhabi Police, noted that the initiative strengthens the concepts of conserving resources for the employees and the public. “It encourages them to utilize advanced methods and technologies that conserve water and power,” he said. “The initiative also introduced its target audience to more detailed information regarding ways to conserve and highlighted how easy it is to integrate sustainable practices into their daily routine and to act as a role model for others. By following these steps, it will help to unify awareness efforts and to reduce water and power waste.”

He also noted that the awareness initiative is part of the Abu Dhabi Police efforts in the field of environment and green applications. It also reflects the vision of the Ministry of Interior and the UAE’s National Strategy for Green Growth that aims to achieve a high quality of life through the sustainable and efficient use of natural and economic resources, and through enhancing national security in the areas of energy and water.

“The initiative aims to highlight the importance of water and electricity,” he said. “It also stresses on the importance of preserving these resources and in adopting the best methods that promote the behavioral commitment to rationalize consumption.”

Brigadier Al Ketbi, turning to the importance of the cooperation with ADDC in spreading the culture of rationalizing consumption amongst wide segments of the society, he said: “ADDC has introduced the members of the community and members of the ADP to useful methods used for rationalizing consumption, which has helped to foster the efforts of the Abu Dhabi Police in reducing consumption in its headquarters.”

For his part H.E. Saeed Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Managing Director of ADDC, stressed on the commitment of the company to spread awareness about the importance of conserving water and electricity as an integral part of the general strategy of the company. These concepts are also a part of the general strategy of the Government of Abu Dhabi and the Abu Dhabi Vision 2030 that aims to protect the environment and the sustainable use of natural resources for the benefit of the coming generations.

He also noted the significant support that Government of Abu Dhabi provides for the water and electricity sectors: “A great percentage of this subsidy could be dedicated to education, health, or infrastructure if we managed to reduce water and electricity waste. This could easily be achieved by following simple procedures that do not affect the quality of life for Abu Dhabi residents.”

Engineer Abdullah Al Badi, Head of the Water Engineering Division at ADDC, pointed out to the efforts of the UAE government, as represented by Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA), in providing the highest quality of services and technologies in the fields of water and electricity. He also delivered a presentation with a 3D model of the water and electricity processes, from its stages of production to home delivery.

He also stressed on the importance of fostering a culture of conservation and pointed out the adverse effects that the environment will face if the rates of demand and consumption continue to grow without employing practices of conservation. To this end, one of the main objectives of the government is to spread awareness and foster social responsibility.

Engineer Al Badi provided guidance on the methods and techniques of conserving resources, in addition to the best methods of consuming water and electricity. He also expressed his gratitude for the Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department for their initiative that promotes a culture of conservation and sustainability, and maintains national gains.
