Citizens participating in the Ministry of Interior’s Council hosted by Muta’red Saif Al Afari’s at his residence in Al Ain on Wednesday recommended boosting families’ awareness about the dangers of drug use and abuse. During the council, held under the title “the Impact of Drugs on Youth”, participants called for utilizing social media and awareness films to address the young generations and warn them against the dangers of drugs abuse and addiction.

Participants also called upon parents to practice positive supervision of their children and make sure they make good use of their leisure time during school holidays. They also stressed the need to develop innovative educational and recreational programs for students in order to enhance their awareness about the dangers of drugs.

The Al Ain Traffic Section at the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate took part in the “May God Bless Your Efforts” Festival. The one-day festival that took place in the morning was organized by the Cycle 2 students from the Al Foah School, in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) and a group of government institutions and private organizations that support individual and public health and safety. The social initiative implemented by the Operations Department at Abu Dhabi Police, aimed at honoring people who contact the Operations Room (999) to report emergencies, prompted citizens to quickly report incidents and other emergency situations. This has contributed to speed of response and intervention at the time of accidents and an increase in public trust.

First Lieutenant Fahed Al Dahmani, supervisor of the social responsibility program at the Operations Department, explained that the initiative recognizes the efforts of citizen informants who cooperated with the police in protecting lives and property. Ten people died and eight others of different nationalities sustained minor to moderate to severe injuries on Friday, in a fire that broke out at a building in Al Mussafah Industrial Area. The fire started in the first floor of the two-story commercial building that houses seven shops and a car-repair shop, before spreading to the warehouse on the second floor that was used as an illegal accommodation for workers.
