Supervisor Arrested for Stealing Gold Jewelry from 3 Houses in the Western Region

The Abu Dhabi Police arrested a workers’ supervisor (an Arab national), on suspicion of stealing gold jewelry from 3 houses in the Western Region in Abu Dhabi, located near the construction site where he was working.

The Western Region Police Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police managed to retrieve some of the stolen items, which varied from gold jewelry and electronics worth more than Dh100,000.

Elaborating on the details of the case, Colonel Ojeil Ali Abdullah Al Junaibi, Director of the Western Region Police Directorate said that the directorate had recently received several complaints of a number of thefts from houses in the area. Preliminary investigation at the crime scenes indicated that the culprit took advantage of the homeowners’ absence to break into the houses and cart off their valuables, using the same MO in his break-ins.

Colonel Al Junaibi said: “An investigation team was formed to further investigate the details of the thefts, and to promptly arrest the culprit before disposing of the stolen items. The team carried out a well- thought plan that was established based on the results of the evidence gathered at the crime scenes.”

He added that as a part of the security plan, investigators narrowed down their suspicions to a man identified as “A. A. M.” (33 years), and arrested him in the Western Region. During a search of his residence and workplace, the police found and confiscated some of the stolen items that were hidden in secret compartments. During interrogation, the man confessed to planning and carrying out the thefts during his break, taking advantage of the quiet area and the absence of pedestrians.

Colonel Al Junaibi praised the outstanding efforts and high competency of the police officers that resulted in arresting the suspect even though he was exercising extreme caution, trying not to arouse suspicions, and recovering some of the stolen items. He also commended the valuable role of the Forensic Evidence Section in the Western Region in uncover the circumstances of the case.

The Director of the Western Region Police Directorate called upon the public to get more involved in the efforts exerted to ensure their security and maintaining the safety of their money and property,  by placing them in safe places during their absence, and taking the necessary precautions.

Colonel Al Junaibi said that despite the multitude of awareness campaigns carried out by the police to protect houses against thefts, some people tend to disregard the preventive measures to protect themselves and their belongings. He urged homeowners to be cautious and to implement preventive measures to avoid thefts.

It is worth mentioning that the Ministry of Interior had recently launched an awareness campaign, carried out by the Security Media Department at the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, at the countrywide level. The campaign is initiated under the slogan “Our property…Our responsibility" and aims at boosting awareness among individuals on the need to maintain private and public property. Awareness-raising publications and posters were also distributed to individuals, stores, and others as a part of the campaign.
