The UAE will be commencing a set of activities on Tuesday to mark the 12th edition of the Safer Internet Day, held under the theme “Lets Create a Better Internet Together” at the countrywide level. The activities will continue until February 14.
Colonel Expert Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Al Dabal, General Coordinator of the Khalifa Student Empowerment Program, indicated that these activities will be implemented at the UAE level. As a part of these activities, the Dubai Police will be promoting the campaign via social networking sites (Facebook and Twitter); as well as allocating a special episode in the program “To whom it may concern” via Noor Dubai Radio to discuss the campaign. Other activities will be organized by the Subcommittee for Awareness, Media and Research affiliated to the Higher Committee for Child Protection of the Ministry of Interior; while the Ministry of Interior’s Child Protection Center will offer the opportunity to register for the HEMAYATI Application at Kidzania on Thursday.
The National Media Council (NMC) will invite media outlets to take part in the campaign, and the Friday Khutbah will tackle the subject of Safer Internet, while the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) will send awareness text messages to community members. The school radio at the Smart Learning Schools will discuss this global event within the framework of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Program for Intelligent Education; the first session will be dedicated to discussing the importance of promoting safer and more responsible use of the Internet and will include a competition for students.
Moreover, the Emirates Advanced Investments Group will be conducting a course aimed at acquainting trainers from the Ministry of Education, Institutes of Applied Technology, and Secondary Technical Schools with the goals of the Safer Internet Day and will launch the CYBER C3 Competition in schools across the country. The Ministries of Education and Social Affairs, the Abu Dhabi Police, the Dubai Sports Council (DSC), the Juveniles Awareness and Care Association will also be taking part in the Safer Internet Day festivities, and will be organizing awareness-raising activities and events. The Central Bank of the UAE will post the campaign’s slogan on ATM machines.
In the same context, the Emaar Company-Kidzania Center will be organizing various activities at the Winchester and Westminster international schools at Kidzania Center; along with a free drawing pavilion for children and a recreational segment presented by media figure Jassem Obeid Al Zaabi, from Abu Dhabi Police, the well-known teddy bear character.
Other activities are scheduled to take place at the Union Co-operative Society; the Emirates Post Group; Ras Al Khaimah Police; Umm Al Quwain Police; Al Fujairah Police; Ajman Police; Al Sharjah Police; as well as at Ministry of Culture and Community Development; Salma Alansaria School; Tawazon TV channel; and the International Computer Driving License (ICD) organization.
