NEW YORK & LONDON - Tuesday, December 16th 2014 [ME NewsWire]
(BUSINESS WIRE) -- Oliver Wyman, the international management consulting firm, today announced that Sir Hector Sants will join the firm as a Partner and Vice Chairman. Sir Hector will be based in the London office effective July 1, 2015.
Sir Hector will draw from his extensive corporate governance, regulatory reform, and management experience in both the public and private sectors, most recently at Barclay’s Bank, where he served as Head of Compliance and Government and Regulatory Relations. From July, 2007 to June, 2012, Sir Hector was the Chief Executive of the Financial Services Authority (FSA) in the UK, the financial regulatory body then responsible for oversight of the integrity of the UK’s financial markets. He led the FSA during the financial crisis and reorganized it into the current conduct and prudential structure prior to his departure.
“Oliver Wyman is especially pleased to have Sir Hector join us,” notes Scott McDonald, Oliver Wyman’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “He brings rare and keen insight into global financial markets and on the challenges and opportunities implied by the regulatory reform program. Our work with clients on these issues will benefit greatly from his insights.”
“New supervisory models are emerging in many jurisdictions, and they present regulators and companies with a variety of important choices on organization, corporate governance, conduct, compliance, controls, and risk management,” added Nick Studer, Managing Partner, Financial Services. “Sir Hector is uniquely qualified to enhance Oliver Wyman’s ability to advise clients on these critical issues.”
“I know and respect Oliver Wyman and the work it has done,” Sir Hector comments. “I share its penchant for content and idea development and look forward to joining a partnership of likeable and like-minded colleagues where I can be an active and engaged part of the team.”
Until June 2015, Sir Hector will serve as Chief Advisor to Abu Dhabi Global Market, a broad-based financial services hub for local, regional, and international institutions that will launch formally in 2015.
Sir Hector joined the FSA from Credit Suisse First Boston where he was Chief Executive Officer of Europe, Middle East, and Africa and was a member of CSFB's Executive Board. He joined CSFB in 2000 when the firm merged with Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette. Prior to that, he held a number of senior equity sales and trading roles at both DLJ and UBS in New York and London. He began his professional career as an Investment analyst at Phillips & Drew.
Sir Hector was knighted for services to financial services and regulation in 2013. He has also been a member of the Financial Services Practitioner Panel, and a Board member of, among other bodies, the Securities and Futures Authority and the London Stock Exchange. Outside the financial world he has been Chair of the University of Oxford’s Said Business School, and a non-executive director of an NHS Trust. He is currently a Trustee of the Art Room charity.
Sir Hector is Chair of the Archbishop of Canterbury's Task Group on promoting responsible savings and credit, exploring the role the Church can play in this area. The group's initial focus is on education, financial advice, and credit unions.
He has an MA in psychology and philosophy from the University of Oxford.
