Greedy Asian Driver Transfers Gas Cylinders in Personal Vehicle
ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Sunday, December 14th 2014 [ME NewsWire]
The Abu Dhabi Police condemned the stupidity, recklessness, and greed of an Asian driver whose vehicle (loaded with 22 medium-sized gas cylinders) hit two other vehicles while driving on the main road between Abu Dhabi and Dubai near the Ghantoot area. The potentially catastrophic accident that occurred Saturday afternoon witnessed a divine intervention that prevented an explosion – one that would have claimed the lives of innocents.
The Peripheral Regions Traffic Department at the Traffic and Patrols Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police transferred the (recklessly greedy) driver to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for using his vehicle for illicit trafficking, working without a license, and for not abiding by the traffic safety standards.
Colonel Hamad Nasser Al Bloushi Head of Peripheral Regions Traffic Department, criticized the 34-year-old driver, identified as “G.Sh.”, for his “blatant disregard and absence of common sense”. He called upon companies and individuals to not deal with such vendors, as they play with people’s lives and risk their lives and the lives of others - all for only a small sum of money.
He explained that the Peripheral Regions Traffic Department, in line with the strategy of the Traffic and Patrols Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police, is fighting against the transfer of gas cylinders in unauthorized vehicles and said: “These vehicles are ‘ticking time bombs’ and even though they pose serious and major risks that threaten the lives of the road users, they do not carry any indicator signs.”
Colonel Al Bloushi stressed the importance of adhering to the terms of transferring and distributing gas cylinders in a safe manner and doing so in accordance with the approved regulations. Vehicles transporting gas cylinders should be of a specific color with an open back, and should carry warning signs to caution other road users of their proximity to hazardous and flammable materials. The driver and vehicle must be licensed by the concerned authorities, and the vehicle should be equipped with a fire extinguisher and undergo regular maintenance.
