The Directorate General of Guards and Special Tasks at Abu Dhabi Police GHQ obtained the Environmental ISO 14001 and the Health & Safety Standard OHSAS 18001 certifications for Occupational Health and Safety management systems. This falls initiative is in pursuance of the environment, health and occupational safety system project plan, which is applied by the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ and is part of the legislative framework for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The project focuses on spreading the environment, health and occupational safety culture and educating Abu Dhabi Police GHQ’s staff members on the importance of the environment and the need to comply with health and safety standards.
Brigadier Fares Al Farsi, Director General of Guards and Special Tasks, recently received at his office the two certifications; the Environmental Management Systems Standard ISO 14001 and the OHSAS 18001 certification for Occupational Health and Safety management systems that were awarded to the Government and Diplomatic Premises Protection Department and the Directorate General of Guards and Special Tasks. He stressed the directorate’s unstinting commitment to embody the Abu Dhabi Police’s strategy in enhancing and spreading the concept of environment, providing services in a safe and environmentally-responsible manner, and ensuring health and safety.
Colonel Faisal Sultan Al Shuaibi, Director of Strategy and Performance Development at Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters, noted that implementing the environmental management system and the occupational health and safety management systems is in pursuance of the Abu Dhabi Government’s requirements, which stipulate the need to implement environment, sustainability, occupational health and safety systems. “Implementing these standards also reflects the police responsibility and attention to environment and sustainability,” added Colonel Al Shuaibi.
Moreover, Colonel Al Shuaibi stressed the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ’s commitment to delivering its services in a safe and environmentally-responsible manner. “It also strives to ensure the health, safety and welfare of its employees and customers, reduce the negative impacts of its operations on the environment. It also endeavors to be a trendsetter in implementing the best sustainable environmental practices and carrying out its operations responsibly, consistent with its vision and in accordance with environment, occupational health and safety laws,” he said.
He also highlighted the keen interest in spreading the policy and objectives of Abu Dhabi Police among all employees, clients, partners, customers and community members; in addition to complying with the guiding principles on environment, health and safety in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
For his part, Major Dr. Saif Salem Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Deputy Director of the Strategy and Performance Development at Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, indicated that the Strategy and Performance Development Department of Abu Dhabi Police identifies the measurable goals and objectives for the environment, occupational health and safety standards, in line with the Government’s objectives. “The department integrates the best methods to identify and reduce the risks in all aspects of environment, health and safety; establishes biodiversity conservation considerations; integrates environmental systems into the decision-making process and employees’ performance development with respect to the environment, occupational health and safety,” he said.
It is worth mentioning that the Strategy and Performance Development Department at Abu Dhabi Police had concluded a series of training courses aimed at qualifying 30 of its departments to obtain the two certificates, in pursuance of the environment, health and occupational safety system project plan, which is part of the legislative framework for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The project focuses on spreading the environment, health and occupational safety culture and educating Abu Dhabi Police GHQ’s staff members on the importance of the environment and the need to comply with health and safety standards.
