The Security Support Section at the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ took part in a number of air surveillance missions conducted by the Los Angeles Police Department's Air Support Division (ASD) in the arrest of wanted criminals. The missions took place following a notice of complaint, which summoned the intervention of Air Support helicopters.
The Security Support members qualified for such air missions participated in locating and monitoring a suspect in a drug case. In a comprehensive surveillance operation, the suspect’s whereabouts were identified and monitored from the sky of Los Angeles. The gathered tactical intelligence was later passed to the ground police forces, which resulted in the arrest of the suspect in hiding.
The United States’ Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) praised the high-level of the ADP Security Support members’ professional performance in utilizing advanced and modern crime-fighting methods.
Facing crimes in the heart of LA, the Security Support Section also participated in similar ground missions and assisted the US patrols in arresting criminals.
The delegation of the Security Support Section is visiting the USA for a two-week-long mission, aiming to exchange expertise with the US Police and enhance the capacities provided by the Section in carrying out unconventional security tasks.
The delegation included Lieutenant Colonel Khaled Saeed Al Shamesi, Chief of the Security Support Section; Major Mohammed Mubarak Al Masa’bi, Security Support Patrols Branch Manager; Captain Mohammed Ibrahim Al Balas, Operations Planning Branch Manager; along with a number of other officers and experts from the section.
In regards to the air missions that were conducted, Lieutenant Colonel Al Shamesi said: “As a part of our detailed agenda, this participation was to identify and learn about the latest international standards and practices. The Security Support members gained modern policing tactics and innovative ideas within the context of following-up developments in police and security work.
We discussed the best ways to guarantee security when managing an event. After receiving calls from the operation room, we accompanied US police forces in the aerial surveys. We were able to closely witness the rapid performance and conduct of the force members, most particularly of our Security Support members, in the face of crime using the best available methods.”
The delegation of the Security Support Section visited the LAPD, where they met with the police commanders and training staff at the academy. They visited the advanced training facilities and learned about the most advanced training methods and training in firearms. They took part in simulation force training, which included vehicle chases. The also toured a simulated city that trains members through real-life crime fighting situations.
The delegation attended a seminar on training and the rules of using force, which was presented by a senior lecturer at the LAPD. They also participated in the Force Option Simulator Exercise and learned the rules of using force in the US state and their proper use. The delegation also visited trainings at the patrol command field (EVOK) and participated in training scenarios to prosecute criminals- such as Driving Simulator Scenarios.
In a similar context, the delegation visited the LAPD’s Counter-Terrorism and Special Operations Bureau, where they met Blake Chow, Assistant Commander of the Bureau. Mr. Chow briefed the delegation on the police missions and security measures that are followed in order to stay in line with the latest international standards on fighting crime. The delegation also reviewed the Bureau’s programs and visited the City Emergency Operations Centre.
During the visit, the Security Support team presented the strategies and the best techniques of the Abu Dhabi Police in fighting crime and in enhancing the security and safety of the society. They also highlighted the process of development and the current crime-fighting mission of the Security Support Section.
The Security Support Section is scheduled to visit other police departments in the US during the remainder of their two-week tour.
