Saif bin Zayed Directs the Activation of “Reporting” Service for the Public through “Mobile” Cameras

To Ensure Premium Services

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - Tuesday, November 4th 2014 [ME NewsWire]

Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, directed the General Directorate of Police Operations in the Abu Dhabi Police, to make the proper preparations in order to activate the service for handling phone reports through “mobile” cameras. These steps are to ultimately save lives and properties through minimizing response times and increasing effectiveness and quality.

His Highness reviewed the new technological project, its objectives, and the means of implementation as presented by the Police Operations. The service allows the receiver of the report to: form a live image of the reports that need quick field assessments; identify the level of the incident and the appropriate methods of support, such as the size and teams needed; and to accurately pinpoint the location of the person reporting and of the incident.

His Highness also urged the work team to simplify procedures and to make the service user-friendly in order to enable broad and various segments of society to effortlessly take advantage of the service. His Highness additionally offered incentives to use the service and will consider such contributions within his awards for community service.

Major General Mohammed bin Al Awadhi Al Menhali, Director General of Police Operations at Abu Dhabi Police, said that handling incident reports via mobile phone cameras comes as a translation of the vision of His Highness, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. These visions include upgrading and developing the services provided to the public by the police in accordance with the best international standards, and most particularly, in the field of responding to incident reports.

Major General Al Awadhi said the Police Operations Directorate’s innovative new service - which will soon be implemented following the conclusion of the trial phase – allows the person reporting the incident to link their mobile phone’s camera directly to the Operations Room after receiving a link via text message. The recipient of the report will be able to assess the level of threat, and identify any imposed risks alongside the proper means to handle the situation. Utilizing the phone’s camera in incident reports additionally assists the Operations Room to identify any potential “ambiguous” events of an incident.

The new application hosts a myriad of benefits for those wishing to communicate with the Operations Room to report an incident or to ask for help. Persons with hearing or speech impairments will be able to communicate with the operations room via transmitting audio and video. Tourists, visitors, and the public will be able to easily identify their locations and eliminate problems associated with new locations, language barriers, or the inability to directly describe the nature of the incident- amongst many other additional benefits.
