Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - Friday, October 24th 2014 [ME NewsWire]
Brigadier Ismail Al Sirkal, Deputy Director General of Abu Dhabi Police Central Operations, honored Jordanian national Ahmed Khalaf Al Shuawra living in the UAE credited for extinguishing a fire that broke out suddenly in a vehicle on one of Abu Dhabi roads. Brigadier Al Sirkal praised Al Shuawra’s quick thinking and his heroic actions in extinguishing the fire, which potentially saved a vehicle owner's life. He added, “Such tribute falls in line with the social responsibility methodology and reflects the keenness of the Ministry of Interior to recognize the efforts of people who cooperate with the police.”
Lt. Colonel Nasser Suleiman Al Maskari, Head of the Operations Department at the Directorate General of Central Operations, explained that the Operations Room closely followed the unfolding of the incident, to ensure that the fire extinguisher is properly used in a safe and secure way. He also valued Al Shuawra’s efforts and his eagerness to help the vehicle owner extinguish the fire, which demonstrated his consideration and caring for the well being of a fellow human.
For his part, Ahmed Al Shuawra extended his thanks to Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters for its keen interest to recognize the actions made by members of the public, as a means to encourage them to cooperate with the police, in a bid to promote prevention efforts and contribute to warding off dangers.
It is worth mentioning that the Ministry of Interior endeavors to constantly acquaint the public via educational programs and activities with the importance of having portable fire extinguishers available in the vehicle, and renewing outdated fire extinguishers that are commonly available in most modern vehicles.
Having a fire extinguisher within reach can save lives in the first few minutes of a fire until firefighters arrive. However, it is extremely important to check these fire extinguishers periodically because they have a limited life-span; as they play an instrumental role in extinguishing fires and reducing potential damages and casualties.
