Abu Dhabi Medical Efforts Hailed in Organizing the Pan Medical Conference

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Sunday, October 19th 2014 [ME NewsWire]

Many of the physicians participating in the Pan Medical Conference “Women’s Health”, hailed the outstanding efforts of the Abu Dhabi Police Medical Services in organizing the conference, and in attracting the best consultants to showcase the latest medical developments in the field of women’s health through the Pan Medical Conference.

Dr. Hassan Shehata, Obstetrics and Gynecology consultant, Ambassador of the Royal British College in the GCC region, said that the conference successfully focused on major diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, blood pressure, cervical cancer, and other diseases that affect women. The Royal British College decided, based on the importance of this conference, to hold a conference about women’s health in the GCC region, and chose the UAE to host the initial conference which will be held in 2016.

During the honoring ceremony held by the organizing committee at the conclusion of the conference on Saturday evening, Dr. Shehata hailed the efforts of the Medical Services Department at the Abu Dhabi Police, in regards to the organization of the conference, the number of attendees, the discussed topics, and the lecturers, who had come from all around the world to participate. He considered this to be one of the most successful conferences, which exhibited good planning and coordination. He also hailed the efforts of the Medical Services Department at the Abu Dhabi Police and its role in developing women's health care in particular, and in enhancing the healthcare system in general.

He added that the Royal College is in the process of establishing a center for Obstetrics and Gynecology in the Gulf region. Abu Dhabi has been designated for the headquarters for this center, due to the witnessed advancements in the healthcare sector; the care by the medical departments in the country; the strong encouragement by everyone for this success; and for the attention given to women’s health by the higher leadership, Ministry of Health, Health Authority - Abu Dhabi, and the Medical Services Department at the Abu Dhabi Police.

Dr. Rasha Abbas, Consultant Psychiatric at the American Center for Psychiatry and Neurology, said that the Pan Medical Conference is one of the largest medical conferences in the region and has the highest attendance by specialized physicians. This is particularly due to the abundance of workshops, discussion panels, and work papers that discussed the various diseases that women are exposed to in the region, in general and in the Gulf in particular, in addition to the corresponding treatments. She hoped that the Medical Services Department at the Abu Dhabi Police will continue to organize such conferences, as they benefit both physicians and patients, most notably through the showcasing of the latest medical practices and equipment.

Colonel Jassim Al Tunaiji, Director of the Medical Services Department at Abu Dhabi Police, stressed that the UAE is a leader in organizing and providing international conferences, and will not hesitate in order to provide all of the capabilities necessary in order to help with the success of these conferences.

Colonel Al Tunaiji stated that the supervisors of the Pan Medical Conference on Women’s Health did not fall short of their roles; instead, they exceeded expectations of success for this distinguished conference through the provision of the entire scientific, medical, and human resources, a large attendance, and through the provision of comprehensive topics discussed by international and local physicians well-seasoned in their respective fields of specialty.

As for the proposal of the Royal British College to establish the Obstetrics and Gynecology Center in Abu Dhabi, Lt. Colonel Dr. Najala’ Asaad Taher, Chairman of the Conference, stressed that this suggestion has many connotations, the most important being that the Royal College sensed the level of interest of the police command in women’s health; as women are mothers, wives, and educators of generations. She pointed out that women do not constitute only half of the society- they form the society as whole. She recommended encouraging regular awareness and educational campaigns in schools in order to protect students from future age-related diseases, and from the disabilities some diseases may cause.

Lt. Colonel Dr. Taher pointed out the importance of learning from the experience of other countries, to conduct research, and to collect data about the most common diseases in the UAE in order to develop a database of statistics to monitor and adopt future screening programs. It is important to follow-up on women’s health issues and to repeat this successful conference every two years, as it is considered a unique event through: the collaboration of three specialties (Internal, Gynecology, and Dermatology); the focus on all of women’s healthcare issues; and the notable success that has been achieved.
