As of Monday in Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - Saturday, September 13th 2014 [ME NewsWire]
The Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police announced that as of Monday, September 15, drivers will be fined AED 200 each, should they fail to remove their vehicles from the road in case of minor accidents. This procedure embodies the decision issued by the Ministry of Interior upon recommendation from the Federal Traffic Council.
The directorate urged motorists who get involved in minor traffic accidents, or those whose vehicles sustain mechanical malfunctions or tyre bursts, to remove their vehicles from the road and park them in the nearest safe location. This measure aims to maintain all road users’ safety, ensure a smooth flow of traffic, and to protect parties involved in the accident from sudden accidents, or from being fined for obstructing traffic.
Brigadier Eng. Hussein Ahmed Al Harithi, Director of Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police, explained that leaving vehicles that break down in the middle of the road, or replacing tyres right on the traffic lanes would expose drivers of those vehicles to run over accidents. Traffic accidents may also occur, as other motorists would try to suddenly change lanes to avoid the broken down vehicles.
Brigadier Eng. Al Harithi called on motorists whose vehicles experience mechanical breakdowns to avoid causing traffic congestion or blocking the traffic flow by parking their vehicles in a safe nearby location to avoid being hit by incoming vehicles on the road. He also urged them to ask for assistance by calling the Central Operations Room on 999.
It is worth mentioning that, ‘Article (12) of the Regulations for Federal Traffic Law, states that in the event of a traffic accident that does not result in a physical injury, parties involved shall park their vehicles in the nearest location that does not obstruct traffic. This should be done in order to avoid traffic fines under the heading of ‘Traffic Obstruction’, and all parties involved in the accident shall submit their personal and vehicle information’.
