Ministry Of Interior Launches Hemayati Application on BlackBerry App World and Windows Phone Store

To Cater to the Needs of Smartphone Users

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - Saturday, September 13th 2014 [ME NewsWire]

The Ministry of Interior launched the “Hemayati” Application on Blackberry App World and Windows Phone Store, to promote children safety and protection using the latest smart technologies. This measure follows the ministry’s recent success in providing the application on “Google Play” for Android phones and “Apple Store”, to cater to the needs of the various smartphone users.

Major General Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Higher Committee for Child Protection at the Ministry of Interior, said that this step personifies the ongoing efforts of the Ministry of Interior to develop smart interactive services via mobile phones. The application is available free of charge on smartphones, exclusively in the UAE, and is activated by parents only.

The Secretary General stressed the keenness of the Ministry of Interior to achieve its vision according to the UAE’s National Agenda for the next seven years, via an array of projects and initiatives related to police and security work. “These projects and initiatives would serve the ultimate goal of making  the UAE one of the safest countries in the world by achieving a total sense of security and safety, and by reducing  response time for emergency calls to just four minutes,” he said.

Major General Al Nuaimi He pointed that the police institution’s different sectors work together in order to achieve security and safety for society in general and children in particular. He also pointed to the wide variety of initiatives and projects, whether fully implemented within the police institution, or in collaboration with strategic partners. He also praised the instructions of the police leadership to promote partnership between the police bodies and the private sector, based on continuous keenness to increase efficient cooperation with partners from different governmental and private entities, as one of the government’s most prominent strategic goals.

For his part, Lieutenant Colonel Faisal Mohammed Al Shimmari, Head of the Cyber Security Subcommittee, at the Ministry of Interior, mentioned that this development reflects the Ministry of Interior’s keenness through the various initiatives, to provide the necessary protection to children against all kind of dangers, especially while they are in contact with the virtual world.  It is also an invitation from the ministry to all the families in the UAE to use the application available at the Apple Store for the iOS compatible iPhone and iPad, and at Google Play app store for Android compatible smartphones, in time for the new academic year.

He added, “The application provides parents with the ability to keep track of their children’s whereabouts at all times, or to know that they didn’t reach school or any other public destination on time.  The parents will be automatically notified in case their children fail to reach the specific destination.”

Lieutenant Colonel Al Shimmari reminded of an earlier example, “The parent can set his child’s arrival time at school, between 7:30 am and 7:45 am. If the child does not reach school on time or fails to appear, the application sends an alert to the parents in order to enable them to take appropriate measures to ensure the safety of their child.”

The application allows the parents to communicate with their children around the clock, and includes a built-in feature that enables children to send distress calls to their parents when they feel threatened. It also provides the ability to forward the signal to Abu Dhabi Police with a single click, in the form of a “Smart SOS”, which will be given priority, with a response time of only four minutes.

Family members can communicate through the application by clicking on the picture of one of the family member on the map; the name and the last known whereabouts of the latter appear. They can call or text or request a location. These features will be only accessible to family members through a chat called “private group”. The application features secure specifications, due to its privacy policy. It helps to determine the whereabouts of children in case they go missing.  To download and install the application you can visit the following link: http://hemayati.moi-cpc.gov.ae/.
