Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - Saturday, September 6th 2014 [ME NewsWire]
The Abu Dubai Police recently arrested three Asian men for allegedly concealing and smuggling 245 heroin capsules, weighing approximately less than 2.5 kg. The suspects were nabbed in two separate cases that occurred in Al Musaffah and Al Mafraq cities in Abu Dhabi.
According to Colonel Dr. Rashid Mohammad Borshid, Head of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), a total of 209 heroin capsules were seized in Al Musaffah industrial area (weighing less than 2 kg) in the first instance. “In the second case, 36 capsules packed with less than 500 g of heroin were seized in Al Mafraq,” added Colonel Borshid.
“The four suspects were recently arrested for trying to sell the narcotics to two undercover agents from the Anti-narcotics Department at the CID Directorate. The two men had posed as buyers and negotiated to buy the drugs for the agreed amounts,” explained Colonel Borshid.
Head of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) lauded the efforts of the anti-narcotics members in conveniently processing the received tip-off information with high professionalism. “These efforts contributed to thwarting the attempts to sell these toxins across the UAE,” said Colonel Borshid; stressing the efficiency of the police officers and their ability to curtail such criminal activities.
For his part, Colonel Sultan Suwayeh Al Darmaki, Chief of the Anti-Drug Section at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), elaborated on the details of the four arrests. He said: “The Section had received a tipoff about two possible separate drug-related activities. In light of the information, two professional teams began conducting separate search, investigation and surveillance missions.”
He added: “After reviewing, analyzing and validating the received information, the suspects were kept under close surveillance until they were caught red-handed in two separate raids. The illegal heroin-filled capsules were seized.”
During questioning, the suspects confessed to possessing the capsules with the intention to sell them in a bid to earn money. In conclusion, Colonel Al Darmaki stressed the need for concerted efforts between community members and institutions to support the police’s efforts to curtail this nefarious scourge that may cause harm to society.
