Ministry of Interior Launches the Fourth Unified Traffic Awareness Campaign

Under the Slogan “Their safety is our concern”

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Saturday, August 30th 2014 [ME NewsWire]

The Ministry of Interior, represented by the Traffic Coordination Directorate General, has launched the fourth unified traffic awareness campaign titled “Back to School” to coincide with the beginning of the new academic year. The campaign is initiated under the slogan “Their safety is our concern” and is one among many initiatives launched by the traffic sector that aims to unite all segments of society to educate school students about traffic accidents. It urges them to abide by traffic rules and safeguard themselves against the dangers of the road.

The campaign embodies the Ministry of Interior’s strategy emanating from that of the Federal Government. It is also in line with the police leadership’s directives to achieve the highest levels of traffic safety for all. It also falls within the traffic sector’s strategic plan at the Ministry of Interior, which is to promote road safety and curtail traffic and run-over incidents.

Colonel Nasser Ahmed Al Hosani, Deputy Director General of Traffic Coordination at the Ministry of Interior, congratulated the academic staff in the UAE’s schools and the parents alike on the occasion of the commencement of the new academic year; he wished the students success on their educational journey.

He also called upon all motorists, parents, and other road users to cooperate with traffic policemen as well as to adhere to traffic rules and abide by the instructions established on roads. These measures aim at ensuring our students’ safety at the beginning of the new academic year, reduce traffic accidents, and avoid traffic congestion and the resulting negative consequences.

He said: “School students of all ages are a major component of human development that must be maintained. Despite taking all preventive measures to protect them from all dangers and hazards, there is a need for more awareness and guidance for parents and people in charge of children to protect them from potential dangers of the road.”

He added that the Traffic Coordination Directorate General at the Ministry of Interior conducts this campaign in cooperation with the Traffic and Patrol Directorates across the UAE, as well as with the Ministry of Education, Emirates Transport, the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai, and others entities concerned with traffic safety in the public and private sectors, which support these purposeful initiatives aimed at providing accidents-free roads. Colonel Al Hosani also stressed the need for further awareness and guidance to promote traffic safety among all students and school bus drivers.

“The campaign aims to raise the awareness of all parties involved in transporting children. It also endeavors to raise the awareness of families and disseminate the traffic culture among children and urge them to respect it. The campaign will be launched across many media including radio, newspapers, magazines and TV channels”, highlighted Colonel Al Hosani. He also noted that the campaign’s theme will be posted on a number of websites, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and on online discussion forums and blogs.
