MoI: New Visa System Enhances Development of Customer Services

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Sunday, August 10th 2014 [ME NewsWire]

The Ministry of Interior confirmed the ministerial resolution No. 22 for the year 2014, which regulates the services and the new visa and fees system of the Naturalization, Residency and Ports Affairs sector, which will enhance the development of the services provided for customers.

This morning, Sunday, Brigadier Dr. Rashid Sultan Al Khodr, Vice President of Legal Affairs at the Ministry of Interior and the official spokesperson of Naturalization, Residency and Ports Affairs, held a press conference at the Naturalization, Residency and Ports Affairs’ Headquarters. He stated that the decision is an embodiment of the UAE Vision 2021, the federal government’s ambitions of becoming a world leader, keeping pace with international applications and utilizing these in every service provided for customers. The decision also aims to provide integrated, multifaceted servicing channels based on standards of quality, efficiency, and transparency. The new decision corresponds to the efforts of the MoI in order to unify the charges of the services provided for customers at the General Directorates of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in the UAE.

Additionally, Brigadier Dr. Al Khodr pointed out that the new decision reinforces the commitment to the regulations of the entry and residency law for foreigners. It also enhances the implementation of the innovative ideas that develop services, systems and programs that promote the development of the sector. Ideas include establishing a fund to contribute to the costs and expenses of tracking and deporting violators of residency law, and organizing a process that ensures uniformity and proportionality between services and their fees, taking the added value to customers into consideration.

He also explained that the ministerial resolution No. 377 for the year 2014 was issued by Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and amended the applicable regulations of the entry and residency law for foreigners. The MoI published the new visa fees on its website at the beginning of August.

Additionally, Brigadier Dr. Al Khodr explained that the decision includes a new array of visas and entry permits, including a visit visa with multiple entries for business purposes and the activation of entry permits for study, medical treatments, and conferences. The new categories are in response to requests from the community and ensure the support of various activities within the comprehensive framework of the MoI’s decision.

Furthermore, he stressed that the approved amendments take into account the quality and development of services, in addition to meeting social requirements and activities in a way that supports various aspects of economic, touristic and social activities. The new decision also focuses on violators, which is the key issue in the suggested amendments, as part of an integrated system, which ensures the field efficiency of executive authorities and customer satisfaction.

Brigadier Dr. Al Khodr pointed out that the development of fees regarding the services that the sector provides aims to restructure the entry permits system. The new structure features multiple entries for most visas, entry permits, and residency with the appropriate fees corresponding to the purpose of the permit. Additionally, it defines the time periods of entry permits which are available for short or long periods of time.  The new system also constructs a new philosophy that responds to the needs and requirements of the customers of the Naturalization, Residency and Ports Affairs sector. The new decision reorganizes entry permits to visit visas and imposes new fees that correspond to the services provided by the sector for its customers.

The press conference was attended by Brigadier Ghareeb Mohammed Al Hosani, Director General of Ports and Airports; Colonel Bakhit Al-Suwaidi, Head of the Office of Assistant Deputy of Naturalization, Residency and Ports; Colonel Abdullah Ali Al Hosani, Head of the Security Policies and Standards Department; Colonel  Ali Ibrahim Al Tunaiji, Head of Violators and Foreigners Affairs Department; Lt. Colonel Matar Kharbash, Head of E-services Department at the Naturalization, Residency and Ports Affairs sector; in addition to a number of other officers of the sector.
