Al Ain Police Arrest Firework Vendor of Asian Nationality

After receiving notification that a child lost two fingers

 

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - Thursday, July 31st 2014

The Al Ain Police Directorate recently arrested a vendor of Asian nationality for selling and promoting fireworks. The directorate has begun an investigation and the vendor was transferred to the public prosecution in preparation for his trial.

Brigadier Hamad Ajlan Al Amimi, Director of the Al Ain Police Directorate, clarified that the Al Hili Police Station recently received a notification that a 9-year-old of Comorian nationality was injured by fireworks, which resulted in the loss of two fingers and a laceration in his left hand. He was quickly transported to Al Ain hospital.

He added, ”A search and investigation team from the Al Hili Police Station was immediately formed to identify the culprit who sold the fireworks to the injured child, to follow-up on the circumstances surrounding the case, and to investigate and  arrest the suspect  for selling and promoting fireworks to individuals. The suspect was then referred to the public prosecution in preparation for his trial.”

Moreover, the Director of the Al Ain Police Directorate reiterated the importance of reporting any unauthorized persons or store owners who sell or promote fireworks within the community by contacting the nearest police station, or by calling the Operations Room on the emergency number 999.

Brigadier Al Amimi called for concerted efforts to educate community members on the promotion of safety measures and prevention. He also pointed out that Abu Dhabi Police had recently launched an initiative to raise awareness of the dangers of fireworks within the “Your Safety” Campaign, due to their dangerous impacts on the society, as they can cause fires and serious injuries to their users.

For his part, Lieutenant Colonel Faisal Mohammed Al Shimmari, Director of the Ministry of Interior’s Child Protection Center, stressed the importance of the family’s role in controlling their children’s’ activities and behaviors, as they are held accountable by law in cases of neglect.

Calling for concerted efforts to protect children against all risks that they may be exposed to, Lieutenant Colonel Al Shimmari said that the center is working in coordination with the concerned authorities to develop initiatives and projects related to protecting children from the risk of accidents and disasters in public places.

“Providing full care for the youth is one of the most important duties of the family,” added Lieutenant Colonel Al Shimmari. He also stressed the need to take safety precautions in order to reduce incidents involving children in general, as accidents are the main causes of injuries for children.

Concluding, he called for the enhancement of societal participation in protecting children from all kinds of abuse. “By communicating with children and families, we can build and support the protective barriers needed to benefit our society and raise our children the right way,” he said.
