ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Saturday, July 12th 2014 [ME NewsWire]
Sheikh Dr. Abdul Aziz bin Ali bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of Al Ihsan Charity Association participated in distributing light iftar kits to motorists in Abu Dhabi in coordination with the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police. This was done as part of the efforts aiming to curb traffic accidents during the holy month under the slogan “Together… Ramadan without accidents.”
H.E. Al Nuaimi was accompanied during the distribution by Lt. Colonel Jamal Salem Al Ameri, Chief of Public Relations Section in the Traffic and Patrols Directorate, Abu Dhabi Police. He pointed out that the participation of the Secretary General of the association presents a major push to promote the awareness campaign during the holy month of Ramadan in order to spread traffic culture among motorists, to urge them not to rush and to drive carefully so they may reach their homes safely before iftar time.
Lt. Colonel Al Ameri informed that the participation of the Abu Dhabi Police with Al Ihsan Charity Association comes as a part of its strategy to promote partnership with all sectors of society. This partnership endeavors to raise the level of safety on the roads, and to reduce the speeding that occurs in order to reach iftar time, which may cause horrific traffic accidents that could result in fatalities and major casualties.
Lt. Colonel Al Ameri urged drivers to: adhere to the designated speeds on internal and external roads, leave enough distance, be careful and pay attention, give priority to pedestrians on pedestrian walks, use seatbelts, and to not be distracted by phones. He also advised motorists to drive carefully, especially before iftar time, which will help avoid accidents caused by rushing, lack of focus or anxiety about not reaching the destination by iftar time. Stressing the importance of adhering to traffic laws and regulations, Lt. Colonel Al Ameri said, “The tension caused by the anxiety of not catching iftar time prompts some people to act negatively by speeding, which is unacceptable behavior with devastating consequences.”
