Under MoI Ramadan Councils
ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Wednesday, July 2nd 2014 [ME NewsWire]
The Ramadan Council of H.E. Ahmed Shabib Al Dhaheri, Director General of Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, discussed the theme of sustainable energy and clean and green applications Tuesday evening.
The council, which was held at the house of Al Dhaheri in Abu Dhabi to organize Ramadan Councils across the UAE to discuss several laws and national topics, falls under the initiative of the Ministry of Interior (MoI), represented by the Law Respect Culture Bureau at the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Interior. Participants at the council reviewed the MoI experience in sustainable energy and green applications, in addition to the ministry’s efforts in promoting an alternative and clean energy culture and to raise awareness in this regard.
The council recommended that efforts should be made to generalize the MoI experience in saving energy and introduce green applications alongside renewable and sustainable energy to schools across the country. These applications and initiative would include school and class activities as well as curriculums.
The council briefed the audience on the history of sustainable energy around the world, highlighting the global efforts to promote it- especially the efforts of the UAE who has taken big steps in this field. The council also recommended raising awareness on sustainable energy and green applications.
H.E. Al Dhaheri praised the efforts of Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, in communicating with civil society and including its members in submitting new ideas and topics to be used.
H.E. Al Dhaheri said, “Now in its second season, the MoI Ramadan Councils are spreading wider, with 35 councils across the country. These councils are discussing various topics. Today we addressed green applications and renewable and sustainable energy, aiming towards achieving a general understanding that will help promote this culture through the experience of the MoI in energy and environmental fields. This experience would help us improve and develop our lives, in line with the general trend in the UAE that is following a strategy to protect the environment and achieve sustainability.”
For his part, Abdulla Rasheed, Gulf News Abu Dhabi Bureau Chief, said, “The MoI Ramadan Councils characterize a positive initiative that aims to promote interaction and remove the barrier between the MoI and civil society. With a set of recommendations brought forth by each council, this initiative also seeks to generalize this expertise across different fields that interest the society and other vital sectors, such as health and education.”
“The MoI, led by Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, was able to change the traditional and stereotypical image of the ministry and has now become a strategic partner to various institutions and members of the community. The Ministry of Interior is playing a highly significant role in the community and this council today is a great example of using communication to achieve the highest levels of awareness across different fields. As an example of this communication, our discussions today were of sustainable energy and green applications through the experience of the MoI, which is the most entrepreneurial and recognizable entity across the country,” said Rasheed.
The council was run by H.E. Ahmed Shabib Al Dhaheri; Abdulla Rasheed; Colonel Dr. Ibrahim Ali Al Bloushi of the Engineering Project Department at the Abu Dhabi Police; Lt. Colonel Dr. Hamoud Saeed Al Affari of the Law Respect Culture Bureau in Al Ain; and a number of other officers and audiences.
