ADP Intensifies Patrols on Abu Dhabi External Roads during Ramadan and Summer Vacation

Colonel Hamad Nasser Al Bloushi Underscores the Need to Inspect the Vehicle before Hitting the Road

The Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police GHQ announced that it will be intensifying traffic patrols on all external roads in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region, during the Holy Month of Ramadan and the summer holidays.

Colonel Hamad Nasser Al Bloushi, Head of Peripheral Regions Traffic Department, stressed that the patrols will ensure compliance of motorists with the designated legal speed limits and will offer them the necessary traffic-related instructions.

Furthermore, he urged road users to observe traffic laws and regulations, reduce speed, use seatbelts, avoid using mobile phones while driving, maintain safe distance between vehicles, and abide by the instructions of traffic police officers.

Within the awareness campaign held under the slogan, “Your Safety”, he called upon motorists to drive carefully, observe speed limits to avoid accidents due to haste and tension caused by the anxiety of not making it on time for the Iftar. Colonel Al Bloushi also pointed out that several entities will be offering Iftar meals for drivers in collaboration with traffic police officers, such as ADNOC that will be distribution the Iftar meals at gas stations.

“We have noticed that highest incidence of accidents caused by over speeding occur shortly before Iftar. Therefore, we advise the public to leave earlier to their destinations before Iftar time,” stressed Colonel Al Bloushi.

Adding further, he said: “In recent years, statistics have shown that most traffic accidents, whether minor, moderate or severe, occur around noon, before the Iftar and after the Taraweeh prayer.” He also called on motorists to exercise caution while driving during these rush hours.

Colonel Al Bloushi noted: “The directorate will intensify patrols on the international highway from Abu Dhabi to the Ghuweifat border port in order to provide traffic services and facilitate travel procedures for pilgrims travelling by road during the Holy Month of Ramadan.”

Head of Peripheral Regions Traffic Department advised motorists wishing to travel by land to spend their annual leave in their home countries to inspect their vehicles and check its mechanical condition. He also urged them to check the serviceability of the tires and make sure to use high quality tires to avoid tire bursts especially with high temperatures.

Moreover, he also called upon drivers to comply with cargo height restrictions, which must not exceed 60cm. He noted that exceeding the imposed load capacity is a traffic offence that entails vehicle impounding, a fine, and three black points.

Colonel Hamad Nasser Al Bloushi urged motorists to abide by traffic regulations and traffic instructions, observe legal speed limits, pay attention and be careful while driving to maintain their safety and the safety of road users. He also emphasized the need to take some rest, stop driving if they feel tired, park the vehicle on the right side, and turn signals to warn vehicles coming from behind.
