In line with the “They Fooled Me” Campaign
ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Monday, June 23rd 2014 [ME NewsWire]
In the coming days, the Security Media Department at the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior will be publishing stories of people who have been convicted of drug crimes. Some of those convicted were fooled and convinced by others to enter into the world of drugs, while some were convicted for cooperating with drug dealers. Many victims insist that what happened was a grave mistake and that they are victims of naivety and fooling. These realities coincide with the “They Fooled Me” Campaign, which aims to spread awareness of the dangers of drug abuse.
Each case is different and involves different reasons for being fooled into the world of drugs. One such story involves a young person who was deceived by his friends. He wanted to join the group that would always go out clubbing, drinking, and doing drugs in order to escape from their reality and forget about the problems, responsibilities and limitations of everyday life. They wanted to live a life of pleasure and live life in a fantasy world. Another story involves someone who decided to escape the routine in his own way, and soon fell into the hands of justice- those who would work day and night in order to make the emirate of Abu Dhabi a community that is blessed with security and safety.
A third story includes that of a young person who was fooled by bad companions that convinced him that manliness means absolute freedom and spending the night out without control. They also persuaded him that taking drugs is one of the ways to prove this phony manliness - in other words, “They fooled him.” Entering their world willingly in order to prove that he was an independent and complete man, this young man was reckless, committed sins, and ignored the advice of his wife and parents. Finally caught by the police, this man is now finding himself behind bars.
Another man, employed with a covetable job, joined the group of drug abusers. This man responded easily to these bad companions, and “They fooled him” into trying their world just to see if they were wrong. After his first experience, he began to swing between marijuana and heroin and created his own special world - but the law then reached him and was sentenced to four years in prison.
Those sentenced for varying penalties indicate that drug traffickers “fooled them” and took advantage of their kind nature and naivety by asking them to transport narcotics from one place to another since they were not under suspicion. But the law does not protect fools.
