Under the patronage of Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Major General Mohammed Khalfan Matar Al Rumaithi, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police, President of the Police Sports Union at Abu Dhabi Police, crowned Dubai Police as champion of the 2014 sports season, for winning the General Excellence Shield for the eighth time, with a score of 572 points.
The Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters (GHQ) came in second place with 526 points, followed by Fujairah Police General Headquarters (GHQ) with 427 points. The Directorate General of Civil Defense came in fourth place; Ajman Police GHQ finished in fifth place, the Directorate General of Special Security Forces in sixth place, followed by RAK Police GHQ in seventh position, Sharjah Police GHQ came in eighth position, the Federal Police School in ninth place and the Naturalization, Residency and Ports Affairs in tenth place.
Sharjah Police General Headquarters’ team was crowned champion of the His Highness Minister of Interior’s Futsal Cup, in its 17th year, at the end of Police Sports Season for 2014.
The Sharjah Police team achieved victory in a powerful and exciting final match over the Civil Defense team with a score of 3-2 in the game that was held on Monday at Salah Uddin Stadium in Dubai. The teams went into the break with the Civil Defense team 2-0 up. Sharjah’s winning goals were scored by Omar Antar, Walid Al Ghoul and Ahmed Al Zari; while the Civil Defense’s goals were scored by Abdulla Faraj Al Nuaimi and Hamad Al Shamesi.
The final match, which was held at the Salah Uddin Stadium in Dubai, was attended by Ibrahim Abdul Malik, Secretary-General of the Public Authority for Youth Welfare and Sports, and a number of sports dignitaries and senior officers at the Ministry of Interior. The attendees included Major General Rashid Thani Al Matroushi, Civil Defense Acting General Commander-in-chief; Major General Abdul Rahman Mohamed Rafie, Assistant of Dubai Police Chief for community service and equipment; Major General Mohammed Saeed Al Marri, Deputy President of the Police Sports Union; Brigadier Saleh Saeed Al Matroushi, Director General of the Civil Defense in Ajman; Brigadier General Abdul Malik Mohammed Jani, Director of the Police Sports Union; Brigadier Ghanem Ahmed Ghanem, Director General of Central Operations at RAK Police; as well as a large number of guests and fans .
At the end of the match, Major General Al Rumaithi crowned the winners and the top ranking teams, during a ceremony that included the honoring of a number of authorities and associations that contributed to the success of the tournament in addition to the tournament’s referees.
The winning teams were also honored. The Abu Dhabi Police GHQ’s team ranked third after defeating Dubai Police GHQ’s team in penalty shoot-outs and received the bronze medals. The Directorate General of Civil Defense finished in second place and was awarded the second place trophy and silver medals. The champion, Sharjah Police General Headquarters’ team, won the championship’s cup and the gold medals. Abdulla Faraj Al Nuaimi, from the Directorate General of Civil Defense’s team, was honored as best player in the championship, while Omar Ali Salmin, from Abu Dhabi Police, was honored as top goal scorer with 12 goals.
Towards the end of the ceremony, Dubai Police received the General Excellence Shield for the sports season of 2013-2014 with a score of 572 points. Major General Abdul Rahman Mohamed Rafie, Assistant of Dubai Police Chief for community service and equipment, was presented with the shield.
Major General Al Rumaithi congratulated the Sharjah Police team for winning the championship and Dubai Police for winning the General Excellence Shield from the Police Sports Union for the current season. He noted that the sports season has achieved the coveted success in accordance with the ambitions of the Police Sports Union. He expressed his thanks to the former Police Sports Union, chaired by Adviser Abdullah Salem bin Nassra Al Ameri, Former President of the Police Sports Union. He also emphasized that the upcoming stage will witness further diligent work in order to upgrade the level of police sports, based on the ultimate attention and unlimited support given by Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.
Major General Abdul Rahman Mohamed Rafie, Assistant of Dubai Police Chief for community service and equipment, congratulated HE Expert Major-General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina the Commander-in-chief of Dubai Police, on Dubai Police’s distinguished win of the General Excellence Shield for the seventh year. He said, “This accomplishment would not have been possible without the continuous directions of the Commander-in-chief of Dubai Police and his ongoing keenness to keep sports at Dubai Police in the front rows.” He also congratulated the supervisors in charge of sports activities at Dubai Police for the winning the General Excellence Shield of the Police Sports Union and their sincere efforts.
For his part, Major General Mohammed Saeed Al Marri, Deputy Director of Community Service Directorate at Dubai Police, Deputy President of the Police Sports Union, congratulated Dubai Police for winning the General Excellence Shield and for the success of the sports season. He reiterated the importance of maintaining the police sports gains and continuous successes, in the light of the developments in the field of police sports. He expressed his appreciation of the efforts exerted by Police Sports Union’s supervisors in preparing for the police sports season. He also expressed his wishes for further sports successes to reflect the honorable image of police sports and police competition spirit.
Brigadier General Abdul Malik Mohammed Jani, Head of Police Sports Federation Department, confirmed the success of the sports season. He praised the efforts of the supervisors and congratulated Dubai Police for winning the General Excellence Shield for this season. He said, “The Police Sports Union is forging ahead according to a well-advised strategy to achieve its goals, inspired by the wise directions of the police leadership at the Ministry of Interior.” He indicated that further efforts will be exerted under the leadership of Major General Mohammed Khalfan Matar Al Rumaithi, President of the Police Sports Union, during this important stage of police sports work that will witness development and improvement.
