ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Tuesday, June 17th 2014 [ME NewsWire]
Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior met Lt. Colonel Mohammed Abdul Jalil Al Ansari, Head of the UAE Search and Rescue Team in his office on Tuesday, who presented His Highness with the first copies of the two most important books in the field of search and rescue translated into Arabic. His Highness Sheikh Saif gave his instructions to distribute the books locally and regionally to all entities concerned with public safety, with a view to promote the culture of disaster response and counter disasters’ negative impacts.
His Highness had instructed the UAE Search and Rescue Team to translate the two books, namely “The INSARAG Guidelines Handbook” and “The INSARAG External Classification/Reclassification Guidelines”. This step aims to promote the concepts of public safety in the fields of search and rescue and to draw lessons from the best international experiences and expertise in this area.
Lt. Colonel Mohammed Abdul Jalil Al Ansari, Head of the UAE Search and Rescue Team, Field Liaison officer between the UAE Ministry of Interior and the UN, Vice President of the United Nations’ International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG), briefed His Highness on the importance of the two books. He also highlighted the nature of experiences and rules of conduct inspired by the practices of search and rescue team leaders around the world for several years and the main findings of professionals working in this area.
“The books, which were translated and will be distributed to all search and rescue teams in the region as per the directives of His Highness, embody the keenness of our police higher leadership to educate teams in charge of maintaining the safety of lives and property at both the local and regional levels. This initiative stems out of the leadership’s firm belief that humanitarian work requires continuous cooperation and concerted efforts to face disasters and crises”.
It is worth mentioning that the UAE police leadership has adopted an initiative aimed at spreading the “culture of crisis and disaster management” to benefit search and rescue teams and competent authorities at the local and regional level. This initiative aims to enhance the performance of those teams to the highest levels of professionalism in terms of search and rescue operations.
