Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - Thursday, June 12th 2014 [ME NewsWire]
Under the patronage of Sheikh Khalid Bin Essam Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Department of Civil Aviation (DCA), the Ports Security Institute at the Ports and Airports Security Department, affiliated to the Directorate General of Ports and Airports Affairs at Abu Dhabi Police, celebrated the graduation of batches of security inspection staff working at Sharjah, RAK, and Al Fujairah Airports. The security staff graduated after meeting the required conditions to receive the accredited aviation security screening certifications, according to the conditions and specifications stipulated by the Aviation Security Screening Systems Certification’s national program set by the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority.
The specialized accredited training program was carried out by the Ports Security Institute at the Ports and Airports Security Department, at Abu Dhabi Police.
During a ceremony recently held at Sharjah International Airport, Sheikh Khalid Al Qasimi distributed the certificates and license cards to the qualified inspectors. The graduation ceremony was attended by Colonel Khamis Al Marar, Director General of the Ports and Airports Security Department at Abu Dhabi Police and Chairman of the Specialized Coordination Committee for the country’s Airports, along with a number of Sharjah Airport officials and officers.
Colonel Khamis Al Marar emphasized the keenness of the police leadership to support the Airport Security Police across the country, in their efforts to qualify and train police staff working at these airports. He noted that police staff members in charge of passengers and luggage inspection were offered an opportunity to participate in the specialized courses held at the institute, with a view to obtain accredited aviation security screening certifications according to the adopted system.
Colonel Al Marar added that the system is vitally important and complies with the conditions and specifications stipulated in the Aviation Security Screening Systems Certification’s national program set by the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority. It also complies with the international security standards and norms mentioned in Annex 17 of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). He also noted that the institute made this distinguished achievement after completing the accredited pilot program, using the CBT computer-based simulation system for detection and inspection training and practical training using X-RAY equipment. In conclusion, Colonel Al Marar indicated that the institute was granted the authority to issue security screening license cards for airports security personnel, by virtue of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Abu Dhabi Police GHQ and the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority in April 2013. According to the MoU, the institute shall comply fully with the international and national requirements stipulated by the approved programs and regulations for civil aviation security, which positions the UAE as one of the leading and distinguished countries to adopt such a system.
