Awarded to Abu Dhabi Police as the First Police Health Entity Worldwide to be Accredited by JCI

Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, was presented with the international accreditation certificate in the healthcare field awarded to the Medical Services Department, affiliated with the Directorate General of Financial Services at the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ. It is worth mentioning that the Medical Services Department is the first police health entity in the world to be awarded this prestigious accreditation by the Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA).
The ceremony was held on Tuesday at the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters (GHQ), and was attended by Major General Khalil Dawood Badran, Director General of Finance and Services; Colonel Jassem Al Tunaiji, Head of the Medical Services Department; Major Soraya Al Duwailah, International Accreditation Project Director; Major Dr. Reema Al Hosani, Deputy Director of International Accreditation, and a number of officers.
His Highness Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed lauded the efforts of the Directorate General of Finance and Services at Abu Dhabi Police, which earned it this prestigious international accreditation. His Highness urged staff members to pursue further efforts and dedication to achieve a sustainable institutional excellence in terms of overall performance and provision of services, with a view to upgrade the quality of services to the highest possible levels.
For his part, Major General Khalil Dawood Badran, Director General of Finance and Services, noted: “Receiving the JCI accreditation in the field of healthcare services supports the department’s efforts to achieve excellence in providing patient-centered quality health and medical care to staff members of the Abu Dhabi Police and the Ministry of Interior and their families. This approach is inspired by the keenness of Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, who instructed relevant entities to provide necessary medical specializations, introduce the latest diagnosis and treatment technologies and to ensure excellent medical care and treatment for patients, based on international standards in the healthcare field.”
Major General Badran stressed that obtaining this international accreditation in the healthcare field is a considerable achievement: “The department is the first police health entity in the world to be awarded this accreditation by the Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA), in appreciation of the excellent work in implementing international best standards to develop medical services. These standards focus on the level of medical service offered to patients and include clinical treatment and efficient medical management services, in addition to patients’ examination, infection control, easy access to treatment, patients’ rights and obligations, safe medical environment, medical and professional efficiency, leadership excellence and the medical e-system and e-medical files.”
For his part, Colonel Jassem Al Tunaiji, Head of the Medical Services Department, stressed the department’s keenness to observe healthcare standards so as to safeguard the gains of the services development system, along with patients’ treatment, provision of medicine and specialty care expansion. He also stressed the department’s commitment to pursuing leadership in patient care so as to provide excellent medical care and therapy treatment and continuing to improve performance indicators of medical competencies.
He added: “Obtaining this accreditation is an important achievement by the Medical Services Department and contributes to positioning the department as the first police health entity in the world to be accredited by Joint Commission International, following a rigorous onsite evaluation in May 2014 by an international team of healthcare experts, with over 30 years of industry experience.”
Colonel Al Tunaiji emphasized that obtaining this prestigious international accreditation will have an important role in improving the efficiency of daily work procedures at the Medical Services Department by upgrading outcomes, reducing costs and providing better service to patients.
Major Soraya Al Duwailah, International Accreditation Project Director at the Medical Services Department, stressed that obtaining the JCI accreditation is a step forward towards further excellence: “It allows the Medical Services Department to provide high-quality health services, based on international standards for staff members of Abu Dhabi Police, the Ministry of Interior and their families, as well as for the inmates of Punitive and Correctional Establishments,” she said. She also noted the department leveraged the expertise of a national company supported by the Khalifa Fund for Enterprise Development, the Abu Dhabi International Quality Consultancy, to qualify the Medical Services Department to obtain the certificate.
On the same note, Major Dr. Reema Al Hosani, Deputy Director of International Accreditation, highlighted that teamwork and team spirit are one of the most important factors for success. “The staff members of the Medical Services Department take pride for serving a medical institution that operates based on international standards and are committed to providing the best service to police staff members,” added Major Al Hosani.
