Dubai, United Arab Emirates - Monday, June 2nd 2014 [ME NewsWire]
Since His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai launched the project almost a year ago, Dubai Design District (d3) has been a key supporter of a number of industry events and initiatives, demonstrating its commitment to the strategic importance of the design, fashion, art and luxury sectors in the UAE.
As a unique hub dedicated to promoting and nurturing emerging local and regional talents, d3 takes its role in building and establishing the industry in the UAE very seriously. Its participation as strategic sponsor in the upcoming Arab Luxury Conference organized by Mediaquest (2 – 3 June) reinforces its positioning further. This conference on the business of luxury in the Middle East includes panel discussions and engaging sessions that will discuss the opportunities and challenges the industry is facing, while highlighting the need for continued efforts to evolve the industry as a whole.
Once complete, d3 will be at the core of this industry. It will offer a global home to the creative community and provide a holistic environment for established designers and brands worldwide to sit together while acting as a collaborative platform to generate inspirations and connections to the designers it incubates.
Support of these industry events – such as Art Dubai, Design Days, Fashion Forward and Downtown Design - mirrors the d3’s vision of providing a community designed for the industry, by the industry. To ensure the right facilities and infrastructure for both established international brands and emerging regional designers are incorporated at the site, d3 ‘crowd-sourced’ much of the design for the project’s master plan. This process allowed the design community the opportunity to take ownership of their potential new home and ensure that every aspect of the site is relevant to their needs. It has also enabled d3 to incorporate elements that allow the creative community to have a location in line with the lifestyle needs of modern society.
Lindsay Miller, Managing Director for Dubai Design District, commented: “By creating a home for the region’s fashion and design community, we are proud to be contributing to Dubai’s vision of enhancing our creative sector. We are making every effort to tailor the d3 offering to meet industry demands in order to create a genuine industry hub for the community, inspired by the community.
“We find that partnering with auspicious events such as the Arab Luxury Conference are mutually beneficial as they provide our team an excellent platform to gain knowledge and expertise that enable us to identify the needs of our future d3 licences to ensure the continued growth and success of the sector in the UAE. We are looking forward to further strengthening our cooperation with events such as these far into the future”.
Since its launch by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, in June last year, d3 has received over 500 expressions of interest, outstripping expectations. As a result of its popularity, dozens of licenses to operate under the d3 free zone are already either in process or approved.

d3 is the newest of TECOM Investments’ freezone business parks – with 10 buildings currently under construction. Once complete, d3 will be a purpose built environment catering to the full value chain of the design, fashion and luxury industry – and all with the vision of creating a world class creative community that engages, nurtures and promotes local, regional and global design talent.
d3’s facilities will include everything from cutting-edge design institutes to residential, hospitality, retail and office space. The District will be characterised by distinct public areas, unique street furniture and shaded walkways. The development will include a Creek-side esplanade with international and boutique hotels, a pop-up shop area, amphitheatre and a convention centre.
Located close to Mohammed Bin Rashid City and adjacent to Dubai’s Business Bay, d3 is a short distance from the city’s arterial highways and two international airports. The District is in sight of the Creek, Dubai’s historic and mercurial trading epicentre, Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, and Dubai Mall, the world’s largest shopping complex.
d3 will be the most connected design, fashion and luxury destination in the world – with Dubai being only eight hours flight time from 90 per cent of the countries in the world.
Guided by the objectives set out in Dubai Fashion 2020 – a strategic plan to harness the full growth potential of the fashion industry – this creative community will support Dubai’s goals for a more diversified knowledge economy.
