Addressing the most important issues facing the logistics of pharmaceutical sector, the cold chain conference commenced today at Raffles Dubai.
Prof. Dr. Tawfiq A. M. Khoja, Director General Executive Board from Health Ministers’ Council for GCC states delivered the keynote addressing patient safety and cold chain practices followed in the region.
According to a report by IMARC, the total size of the healthcare cold chain logistics services market is expected to expand from its current USD 7.3 billion to almost USD 11.4 billion by 2018. Among those witnessing a boom, is the Middle East and North Africa region which is highly dependent on imported drugs that create a need for effective packaging, storage and transportation system for temperature sensitive pharmaceutical products. The challenge for pharmaceutical companies and their logistic partners is to transport temperature sensitive drugs maintaining the integrity and quality of the products throughout the supply chain network.
For a successful cold supply chain it is imperative that all the stakeholders including pharmaceutical and logistics providers are involved in the process and each milestone is transparent. The conference will feature key speakers from the government authorities including Dr. Abdrahman Basbous who will share with the participants the Jordanian Food and Drug Authority experience of good storage and distribution practices in Jordan. Falah Khalil Alsammak will talk about initiatives undertaken by Dubai Customs to simplify the processes for pharmaceutical shipments and custom’s efforts to stop medication smuggling.
