Major General Khalifa Hareb Al Khaili, Acting Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Naturalization, Residency and Ports Affairs, has approved the assessment and periodic review plan at the Naturalization, Residency and Ports Affairs sector. This aims to periodically include improvement plans; so as to promote and spread the organizational excellence culture, improve and upgrade performance at the Naturalization, Residency and Ports Affairs sector to become one of the most distinguished sectors at the Ministry of Interior.
Major General Al Khaili said that the Naturalization, Residency and Ports Affairs sector has launched a self-evaluation initiative in accordance with the Organizational Excellence Standards at the countrywide level, so as to achieve the MoI’s strategy 2014-2016 and to apply its methodologies.
He also indicated that the Strategy and Performance Development Department at the Naturalization, Residency and Ports Affairs, has adopted the initiative in cooperation with the Directorate General of Strategy and Performance Development at the Ministry of Interior, by lending support to the Naturalization, Residency and Ports Affairs sector and providing the appropriate qualification and training in various areas of quality and excellence. He also noted that the initiative contributes to increasing the level of satisfaction among customers, human resources, and partners in all relevant fields.
Moreover, Acting Assistant Undersecretary pointed out that the Naturalization, Residency and Ports Affairs sector has adopted several strategic initiatives of interest to society and that achieve its customers’ and employees’ satisfaction. “The sector has organized several events in 2013, such as the Best Benchmarking Standards Forum, the Partners’ Forum, and the Customers’ Forum. It also organized the Green Applications Forum in 2014 with plans to hold a human resources forum and other forums for customers and partners by the end of the holy month of Ramadan. All of these events support the self-assessment initiative, and are complemented with the establishment of development councils, namely; the governance service; organizational excellence; customer service; a change and development council will also be established soon,” he said.
Major General Al Khaili also noted that the Naturalization, Residency and Ports Affairs sector is endeavoring to improve performance of its services; this initiative will enable it to achieve this goal on the groun.
For his part, Colonel Dr. Abdullah Abdurrahman bin Sultan, Head of Strategy and Performance Development Department at the Ministry of Interior's Naturalization, Residency, and Ports Affairs Sector, explained that the Directorate General of Strategy and Performance Development at the Ministry of Interior has supported the sector with important local and external benchmarking standards and held several courses for both internal and international assessors. He also noted that the Naturalization, Residency and Ports Affairs sector’s leaders have reviewed the Dubai Police General Headquarters’ experience in 2013, which earned it the Self-assessment Initiative Award in the Dubai Government Excellence Program. He added that a team from the Strategy and Performance Development Department also reviewed the experience of the British Passport Inspection System, whereby the sector devised a plan to develop initiatives beginning with the Directorate General of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Abu Dhabi and the Directorate General of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai. In conclusion, he pointed out that the self-assessment team has been formed and includes qualified national cadres with accreditations from international organizations in the areas of organizational excellence and strategy.
For his part, Colonel Issa Al Qaydi, head of the self-assessment team, indicated that the assessment aims to shed light on the traditional side of evaluation by highlighting the strengths and improvement opportunities; particularly the creative aspects and successful experiences in order to exchange best practices and successful experiences to achieve excellence in the sector.
