(BUSINESS WIRE) Cleantech IT innovation and design firm Servergy, Inc. announced today at an IDC Open Compute Project event held in Dubai at the Burj Al Arab that it has partnered with the University of Texas San Antonio (UTSA) Cloud and Big Data Laboratory, and only North America Open Compute Lab, to create an open innovation bridge between Open Compute Project and OpenPOWER for the benefit of both communities.
Servergy Founder, Chairman and CEO, Bill Mapp gave a keynote at the Open Compute Project event in Dubai on bridging Open Compute and OpenPower for open innovation and said “The new OCP Power8 Lab bridges both OpenPOWER and Open Compute to accelerate the pace of open innovation industry-wide."
Mapp said, “With the investment IBM has made to Power8 and OpenPOWER, along with the commitment Open Compute has made to open web scale solutions, we see this as the next logical step and bridge to enabling Power8 to compete against commodity servers. Both communities are investing heavily in the future and we see huge potential with exciting new combinations of OpenPOWER and Open Commute applications with Power8.”
“We are very excited about partnering with Servergy to create the world’s first Open Compute Power8 Solution Laboratory,” said Paul Rad, UTSA Director of Cloud and BigData Research and the Chair of High-Performance Cloud at Cloud Advisory Council.“ The lab will serve as an open innovation bridge between Open Compute Project and OpenPOWER community for researching energy efficient hyper-scale, High-Performance Cloud and Big Data markets."
The new Open Compute Power8 Lab will focus on Power8 platforms for commodity volume server hardware to scale-out and scale-up applications for data centers, globally. IBM has stated that Power8 is capable of analyzing Big Data workloads between 50 and 1,000 times faster than comparable systems.
