Saaed Society Urges Drivers to Maintain Vehicle Safety and Avoid Summer Accidents

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Thursday, May 8th 2014 [ME NewsWire]
The Saeed Society to Reduce Traffic Accidents urged drivers at Abu Dhabi Company for Onshore Oil Operations (ADCO) to follow safety procedures and preventive measures to ensure the safety of their vehicles. This would help maintain the proper functioning of vehicles and help them avoid and prevent malfunctions that occur in summer due to soaring temperatures.
These guidelines were provided in a lecture delivered by Lt. Colonel Jamal Salem Al Ameri, Chief of Public Relations Section in the Traffic and Patrols Directorate, Abu Dhabi Police, and the Executive Director of the Saaed Society. He stressed the importance of proper vehicle inspection, especially in cases of long-distance driving, to ensure the safety of both the vehicles and drivers during summer.
During the lecture, Lt. Colonel Al Ameri reasserted that these checks must include radiator cooling water (Coolant) to avoid fires resulting from engine overheating. He also called for the need to check the validity of the tires, to avoid unexpected tire bursts while driving. Lt. Colonel Al Ameri also reviewed some of the most important safety aspects for safe tire use. He indicated that a car could lose balance and stability due to deep cracks, tire wear and tear, in addition to low air pressure, and driving at speeds that do not suit the tires’ design.
Furthermore, Lt. Colonel Al Ameri encouraged drivers to change engine oil and replace air filters and any other parts that require periodical maintenance or servicing to avoid malfunctions and accidents that usually increase during this season.
Towards the end of his lecture, Lt. Colonel Al Ameri reasserted the need for drivers to observe traffic laws and the legal speed limits that have been set on highways by 140 km/h for light vehicles and 80 km/h for heavy vehicles and trucks. He also called upon drivers to comply with cargo height restrictions, which must not exceed 60cm. He noted  that exceeding the imposed load capacity is a traffic offence  that entails  up to one week impounding  of the vehicle, plus an AED 200 fine, and three black points.
