Asserting the Abu Dhabi Police Commitment to Support Families

Brigadier Najim Abdullah Al Hosani, Director of the Social Support Centers Department of Abu Dhabi Police asserted that protecting children against the dangers and abuses they face is a family and society responsibility. This responsibility indicates the high levels of development that countries and people achieved. It is also a true indicator of a healthy society as children are a genuine asset of present prosperity and the driving force of a developed future.
In his statement during a meeting with media representative at the Department’s Headquarter, Brigadier Al Hosani indicated that the family is naturally the main pillar of all societies, and specifically for children. Society’s power is derived from the principles of religion, ethics, and patriotism. These principles guarantee law enforcement, freedom, security, and decent living that will be reflected on families with stability, serenity, social ties, and compassion. Children are the key segment of this pivotal system since a sound child segment means a sound nation. “In this context we recall what an Arab poet once said: Nations are established upon morals; when their morals go astray, these nations vanish. Social experiences have proved that people’s civilization, customs, and traditions reflect their morals and the people commitment to these values.” Brigadier Al Hosani noted.
In his response to a question regarding the challenges that children face in the UAE society, Brigadier Al Hosani informed that the challenges can be contained and overcome when the civil society organization jointly collaborate with Abu Dhabi Police, represented by Social Support Centers. Brigadier Al Hosani added: “The media play a key role in fostering social awareness, and educating society regarding the potential risk factors that threaten their children. The media also draws parents’ attention to their responsibilities; most notably, children care and protection against verbal, physical, and psychological violence.”
Furthermore, Brigadier Al Hosani explained that some children face some forms of physical domestic violence; both from their parents or domestic servants, especially when left alone with servants. “Parents should be careful and have a sense of responsibility towards their children who are mostly unable to defend themselves or express what they are suffering of abuse or violence.” Brigadier Al Hosani continued.
Regarding the children who are victims of family disputes, Brigadier Al Hosani pointed out that the Social Support Centers are working hard to reduce the harms that these children face. This is achieved by assisting in reaching an understanding between both parents regarding child custody and the parents’ role. The Social Support Centers has set compromise solutions to meet their children. Additionally, the Social Support Centers have intensified its educational programs that uplift awareness levels for both parents in order to avoid fights and spats as it leaves negative effects on the child psychology.
On the other hand, Brigadier Al Hosani shed light on parents’ role in protecting their children against cyber-crimes that threaten their innocence. These threats could be present on the internet and smart phones that children have access to without parental supervision. These threats might lead to the children falling for fake friendship and moral abuses by evil people who have major role in children abuse crimes.
In addition to that, Brigadier Al Hosani said that parents’ responsibility extends beyond protection only; it covers providing the ultimate levels of love, tenderness, and care, in addition to support and guidance. Parents are also responsible for drawing the children attention towards the risks they might face and yet giving them a sense of trust that increases openness and clarity among parents and children; parents should be the closest friend of their children.
“In order to achieve all the previous principles, Social Support Centers in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and the Western Region ‘Al Gharbia’ have exerted great efforts to support families and assisting them in protecting their children against all aspects of abuse,” Brigadier Al Hosani indicated. “Highly qualified and experienced experts assist in these efforts to provide counseling for parents, children, and all other society segments. Additionally, Victim Support Centers are also working hard to rehabilitate victims both psychologically and socially in order to return to society as good citizens who work for the development of their country.” Brigadier Al Hosani added.
He said: “With a view to ensure the implementation of its strategic plans that aim to create a healthy society, Social Support Centers are continually organizing educational programs,” Brigadier Al Hosani explained. “These programs include workshops and symposiums in various areas in order to spread awareness among all society sectors. It is also worth mentioning that the Social Support Centers Department was chosen by the International Organization for Child Protection for the 2014 Performance Excellence Awards.”
